Subject: Slow file saves (7 seconds)
Date: Wed, 29 Jun 2011 13:08:21 -0400
[Message part 1 (text/plain, inline)]
In a fresh installation of Emacs on a new Windows 7 machine, saving
files after editing takes a very long time. For example, saving a 300KB
Latex source takes about 7 seconds pretty repeatedly. The disk is
running, so there is no spinup time. Editing the same file on my old,
slower Windows 7 machine (same speed disk, same init files, but probably
version 23.1 or 23.2) took less than a second, never long enough to
notice. I saw some mentions of version control slowdowns, but I'm not
using such to my knowledge, and setting the switches mentioned in those
posts made no difference. I did not see anything in the emacs bug list.

Thanks for any help you can offer on this.

Jon Doyle

[Message part 1 (text/plain, inline)]
I have discovered that the slow save problem I described was due to AucTeX
reparsing my
files every time I saved them. For a long document, this took a lot of
time. When I turn
off the TeX-auto-save flag in AucTeX, saves are immediate again.

Sorry for the misanalyzed complaint.
