From: Gregor Zattler <telegraph <at> gmx.net> To: bug-gnu-emacs <at> gnu.org Subject: 24.0.50; fails to compile packages flim and lookup Date: Sat, 02 Oct 2010 15:59:31 +0200
Emacs-snapshot for debian sid does not install alongside packages flim and look up-el since their respective compilation fails. I had to uninstall (debian) packages flim and lookup-el in order to install Emacs-snapshot. I have no clue what's the problem here. Is this related to bug #6490 ? It was classified as "wishlist"? http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=588189 Old-style backquotes are going away. Perhaps the ability to compile these files will be restored for 24.1, perhaps it won't. Why not just fix the old code? It will have to be done at some point.

They need to update their code. Not only that: emacsen-common needs to accept the fact the byte-compilation errors can happen and aren't nearly bad enough to justify rejecting installation of packages. Stefan
