Message #5 received at submit <at> emacsbugs.donarmstrong.com (full text, mbox):
If you use `C-x r l' and one of your bookmarks is to a remote file or
directory, you are prompted for the password while
`bookmark-bmenu-list' is trying to list the bookmarks. It stops at
that bookmark before listing any others, and asks for the password. It
does this for each remote bookmark where a password is required.
This is very wrong.
Worse: If you give the wrong password, it simply stops working -
finished. You will never see the other bookmarks that follow that one.
All such bookmarks should simply be listed - presume that the password
will be given when needed. When you ask to jump to the bookmark,
that's the time to ask for the password (the first time only,
obviously).

Message #10 received at 4231 <at> emacsbugs.donarmstrong.com (full text, mbox):
Thanks. I think I'll need a concrete reproduction recipe here -- that
is, something with an actual remote filename in it. I haven't used
remote files for 10 years or more (since the early days of ange-ftp),
and have no idea of what the syntax or setup is like now. Having the
full reproduction recipe will save me a lot of time.

I think maybe I was mistaken about this. In any case, I'm sorry, but I don't
have the time now to follow up on it. Please close the bug.
FWIW, my recollection is that `C-x r l' was trying to determine if each
bookmark's file was accessible, but I now don't see that in the code, so I think
I was mistaken. My point was that `C-x r l' should just display the bookmark,
without ensure that it is still valid - but I think now that that's what it does
do. So please close this - sorry for the noise.
