Without the patch I provided before, gdb fails to star on spacemacs as
reported via
https://github.com/syl20bnr/spacemacs/issues/13693

The root cause is that gdb problem is exposed when window-purpose package
is used.  For details see
https://github.com/bmag/emacs-purpose/issues/163
