I tried Robert's patch in Emacs 29 with Gnome Shell and Debian/bookworm
with:

(x-set-hide-titlebar-when-maximized (selected-frame) t)

And the title bar was not hidden when maximised.  To it seems like this
doesn't work reliably (any more).
