So, this time you specified "Courier New 18" font instead of
"Arial 18", right?

It seems that you are using a fontset that specifies "fixed"
family for Latin characters. And, as you started Emacs with
"-Q", that fontset should be defined in X resource.
Please try this:
% emacs -Q
M-x describe-fontset RET
and show me the contents of *Help* buffer before this line:
