The fix was too radical, log entries for merges don't work anymore.
They have a format like:

    ------------------------------------------------------------
    revno: 123.1.4
    committer: 
    branch nick: blah
    timestamp: blah
    message:
      blah
        ------------------------------------------------------------
        revno: 12.3.123
