Any change that causes recompilation of rmail.el will thereafter cause
a failure to compile rmailmm.el:

  In toplevel form:
lisp/mail/rmailmm.el:78:1:Error: Symbol's value as variable is void: rmail-spool-directory

Compilation of rmailmm.el with the Emacs binary from the emacs-24
branch succeeds with no messages.

This is http://debbugs.gnu.org/17407 .

I think there are several problems with the autoloads generation
mechanism, but the simple way to avoid this is to use a separate
obsolete/loaddefs.el file that loadup.el loads if present.
(Not sure I have time to make that change right now though.)

Changes to autoload generation mean this report is no longer relevant.
