After setting
(setq mac-option-modifier nil)
the alt-key (option-key) combinations work as desired, but shift-alt-
key acts as if only shift had been pressed. (In the view-lossage, you
can see me pressing alt-w (for Sigma) a couple times, then shift-alt-w
(for German left quotes), which get turned into shift-W.)
(This apparently has been true for a couple of weeks now.)
In GNU Emacs 23.0.60.17 (i386-apple-darwin9.5.0, *Step 9.0)
