The problem is in using the system file dialog to read remote file names on w32. This just gives a local file name. I am surprised that this works for you, Joakim. Does the file dialog on GNU/Linux understand Emacs remote file syntax? I think the fix is simple. Just tell read-file-name to not use a dialog: (if (or (not (next-read-file-uses-dialog-p)) (when default-filename (file-remote-p default-filename)) (file-remote-p dir)) From unknown Fri Aug 15 04:03:35 2025 X-Loop: don@donarmstrong.com Subject: bug#99: Dired remote creates local directory from the menus Reply-To: joakim@verona.se, 99@debbugs.gnu.org Resent-From: joakim@verona.se Resent-To: bug-submit-list@lists.donarmstrong.com Resent-CC: Emacs Bugs Resent-Date: Mon, 25 Aug 2008 22:15:06 +0000 Resent-Message-ID: Resent-Sender: don@donarmstrong.com X-Emacs-PR-Message: report 99 X-Emacs-PR-Package: emacs X-Emacs-PR-Keywords: moreinfo Received: via spool by 99-submit@emacsbugs.donarmstrong.com id=B99.121970192612727 (code B ref 99); Mon, 25 Aug 2008 22:15:06 +0000 X-Spam-Checker-Version: SpamAssassin 3.2.3-bugs.debian.org_2005_01_02 (2007-08-08) on rzlab.ucr.edu X-Spam-Level: X-Spam-Status: No, score=-5.0 required=4.0 tests=AWL,BAYES_00,GMAIL, HAS_BUG_NUMBER autolearn=ham version=3.2.3-bugs.debian.org_2005_01_02 Received: (at 99) by emacsbugs.donarmstrong.com; 25 Aug 2008 22:05:26 +0000 Received: from gate.verona.se (IDENT:0@iwfs.imcode.com [82.115.149.64]) by rzlab.ucr.edu (8.13.8/8.13.8/Debian-3) with ESMTP id m7PM5MR1012720 for <99@emacsbugs.donarmstrong.com>; Mon, 25 Aug 2008 15:05:24 -0700 Received: from chopper (IDENT:1005@localhost [127.0.0.1]) by gate.verona.se (8.13.4/8.11.4) with ESMTP id m7PM5FFF003518; Tue, 26 Aug 2008 00:05:15 +0200 From: joakim@verona.se To: "Lennart Borgman \(gmail\)" Cc: 99@debbugs.gnu.org In-Reply-To: <48B32974.7000800@gmail.com> (Lennart Borgman's message of "Mon, 25 Aug 2008 23:51:48 +0200") References: <48B3253E.6050305@gmail.com> <48B32974.7000800@gmail.com> User-Agent: Gnus/5.13 (Gnus v5.13) Emacs/23.0.60 (gnu/linux) Date: Tue, 26 Aug 2008 00:05:18 +0200 Message-ID: MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii "Lennart Borgman (gmail)" writes: > Lennart Borgman (gmail) wrote: >> I can still easily reproduce this bug.
