Subject: Completion breaks text properties

In-buffer completion as performed by `completion-at-point' is really
just another form of user text insertion (i.e., typing) and should
respect text properties just as `self-insert-command' does. But it
doesn't.

Replacing `insert' with `insert-and-inherit' inside
`completion--replace' seems to fix things for me.
