So if there's a package that does provide this functionality, then we don't really need to have it in-core, either (since it doesn't seem like this is a feature tons of people crave), and I'm closing this bug report. -- (domestic pets only, the antidote for overdose, milk.) bloggy blog: http://lars.ingebrigtsen.no From debbugs-submit-bounces@debbugs.gnu.org Tue Dec 08 09:18:16 2020 Received: (at control) by debbugs.gnu.org; 8 Dec 2020 14:18:16 +0000 Received: from localhost ([127.0.0.1]:57017 helo=debbugs.gnu.org) by debbugs.gnu.org with esmtp (Exim 4.84_2) (envelope-from ) id 1kmdom-00007c-DS for submit@debbugs.gnu.org; Tue, 08 Dec 2020 09:18:16 -0500 Received: from quimby.gnus.org ([95.216.78.240]:50958) by debbugs.gnu.org with esmtp (Exim 4.84_2) (envelope-from ) id 1kmdol-00007F-C9 for control@debbugs.gnu.org; Tue, 08 Dec 2020 09:18:15 -0500 DKIM-Signature: v=1; a=rsa-sha256; q=dns/txt; c=relaxed/relaxed; d=gnus.org; s=20200322; h=Subject:From:To:Message-Id:Date:Sender:Reply-To:Cc: MIME-Version:Content-Type:Content-Transfer-Encoding:Content-ID: Content-Description:Resent-Date:Resent-From:Resent-Sender:Resent-To:Resent-Cc :Resent-Message-ID:In-Reply-To:References:List-Id:List-Help:List-Unsubscribe: List-Subscribe:List-Post:List-Owner:List-Archive; bh=o2+3EHb66ZAomFBNHRGcOVdBRk5CfE1zdp8T9uHm7+Y=; b=ZluXZZgMHRyRUSVLNgrz244lN1 bg8AJwhHXepTP6SjWSviP3T/GKJZbn/4iZ9Z9cpyzbLVppTpJCJr1zT/ebye8LbUKs7HlCpma3CCg MUdnfMw81a6DijLX2NbCgoVxGu0alFs5x4aQoocJtWRnB3I2CN6kjebE3XJYQW34mO0A=; Received: from cm-84.212.202.86.getinternet.no ([84.212.202.86] helo=xo) by quimby.gnus.org with esmtpsa (TLS1.3:ECDHE_RSA_AES_256_GCM_SHA384:256) (Exim 4.92) (envelope-from ) id 1kmdod-0002sE-MQ for control@debbugs.gnu.org; Tue, 08 Dec 2020 15:18:09 +0100 Date: Tue, 08 Dec 2020 15:18:06 +0100 Message-Id: <87blf4js9t.fsf@gnus.org> To: control@debbugs.gnu.org From: Lars Ingebrigtsen Subject: control message for bug #9790 X-Spam-Report: Spam detection software, running on the system "quimby.gnus.org", has NOT identified this incoming email as spam. Some want such brushwork in = some contexts; others don't. What's needed, I think, are (1) a fine-grained mechanism to control which c= hars get highlighted and how and where/when, (2) default applications of th= at mechanism to specific contexts, and (3) user ability to control things. No broad brushwork will be satisfactory, I think. I think some form of #1 = is the starting point - without that, I don't see a good solution. I mentioned my library `highlight-chars.el', which provides support for #1:= ways to highlight any set of chars, and control where/when/whether that's = done. Maybe take a look at what it offers, as food for thought or even per= haps reuse? https://www.emacswiki.org/emacs/download/highlight-chars.el From unknown Mon Aug 18 06:57:08 2025 Received: (at fakecontrol) by fakecontrolmessage; To: internal_control@debbugs.gnu.org From: Debbugs Internal Request Subject: Internal Control Message-Id: bug archived.
