With my test case, if you `M-<' to the beginning of the buffer and then
`down', I land on the second line just after the "(1" -- column 60,
which is the point where the line is truncated.  (This would vary by
your pixel size and what font you're using, I would guess.)
So `down' seems to go to the end of the visible second line...

With Emacs 23, I end up on the second line in column 1.
