If I try to find-file "~/Desktop/Home.desktop" with CVS Emacs (updated
today):

M-: (find-file "~/Desktop/Home.desktop") <RET>

Emacs crashes. I think this file belongs to KDE, it looks like that:

[Desktop Entry]
Encoding=UTF-8
Name=Home
Name[af]=Tuiste

    .
    .
    .

GenericName[zu]=Amafayela Omuntu siqu
URL=$HOME
Icon=kfm_home
Type=Link

I can find it with Emacs 22.2.1 without problems.

These .desktop files contain lots of unicode characters, so the crash
seems to indicate a bug in emacs unicode handling. I could reproduce
this bug with an emacs compiled 2 or 3 days ago. But after an update
desktop files can be opened normally again.

Could you try and see if the bug still occurs with current CVS?

Bye,
Tassilo
