I write to this email address according the link: http://www.gnu.org/software/coreutils/faq/coreutils-faq.html#How-do-I-add-a-question-to-the-FAQ_003f. I need filesystem details (size, type, freespace, etc). The most appropriate utility for this purpose is coreutils 'stat' (as I could find). In my case, filesystem to be probed can be both mounted and dismounted. In case of mounted filesystem I have no questions. In case of dismounted filesystem I cannot get her details, because I cannot specify any file in it. So, this is a question: Can coreutils 'stat' utility display details of dismounted filesystem? Or may be another coreutils utility can? Thanks, v99glu. Thanks for telling us where you spotted the bug-coreutils@ reference That is no longer the correct address, and I've just fixed that page and added some clarification. FAQ-related discussion is better directed to the coreutils@gnu.org list. Your message to the bug- list has automatically opened a bug "ticket" http://debbugs.gnu.org/8823 which means someone has to manually close it. (I'm doing that via this message with the Cc to 8823-done@...) > I need filesystem details (size, type, freespace, etc). Or may be another coreutils utility can? If a file system is not mounted, then no coreutils program can do what you want. However, if you really need to inspect a file system without mounting it, consider libguestfs (http://libguestfs.org/). ------------=_1307604422-25361-1 Content-Type: message/rfc822 Content-Disposition: inline Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Received: (at submit) by debbugs.gnu.org; 8 Jun 2011 16:17:39 +0000 Received: from localhost ([127.0.0.1] helo=debbugs.gnu.org) by debbugs.gnu.org with esmtp (Exim 4.69) (envelope-from ) id 1QULRq-00031A-Rl for submit@debbugs.gnu.org; Wed, 08 Jun 2011 12:17:39 -0400 Received: from eggs.gnu.org ([140.186.70.92]) by debbugs.gnu.org with esmtp (Exim 4.69) (envelope-from ) id 1QUFlH-0002H1-5t for submit@debbugs.gnu.org; Wed, 08 Jun 2011 06:13:20 -0400 Received: from Debian-exim by eggs.gnu.org with spam-scanned (Exim 4.71) (envelope-from ) id 1QUFlA-0001Rg-Kc for submit@debbugs.gnu.org; Wed, 08 Jun 2011 06:13:13 -0400 X-Spam-Checker-Version: SpamAssassin 3.3.1 (2010-03-16) on eggs.gnu.org X-Spam-Level: X-Spam-Status: No, score=-2.6 required=5.0 tests=BAYES_00,FREEMAIL_FROM, RCVD_IN_DNSWL_LOW, RFC_ABUSE_POST, T_DKIM_INVALID, T_TO_NO_BRKTS_FREEMAIL autolearn=unavailable version=3.3.1 Received: from lists.gnu.org ([140.186.70.17]:47127) by eggs.gnu.org with esmtp (Exim 4.71) (envelope-from ) id 1QUFlA-0001Rc-EC for submit@debbugs.gnu.org; Wed, 08 Jun 2011 06:13:12 -0400 Received: from eggs.gnu.org ([140.186.70.92]:42748) by lists.gnu.org with esmtp (Exim 4.71) (envelope-from ) id 1QUFl8-0005dD-Ql for bug-coreutils@gnu.org; Wed, 08 Jun 2011 06:13:12 -0400 Received: from Debian-exim by eggs.gnu.org with spam-scanned (Exim 4.71) (envelope-from ) id 1QUFl6-0001Qw-Nx for bug-coreutils@gnu.org; Wed, 08 Jun 2011 06:13:10 -0400 Received: from mail-qy0-f176.google.com ([209.85.216.176]:42520) by eggs.gnu.org with esmtp (Exim 4.71) (envelope-from ) id 1QUFl6-0001Qi-AA for bug-coreutils@gnu.org; Wed, 08 Jun 2011 06:13:08 -0400 Received: by qyk30 with SMTP id 30so207240qyk.0 for ; Wed, 08 Jun 2011 03:13:07 -0700 (PDT) DKIM-Signature: v=1; a=rsa-sha256; c=relaxed/relaxed; d=gmail.com; s=gamma; h=domainkey-signature:mime-version:date:message-id:subject:from:to :content-type; bh=qgWpLBYLBIXxJdxFKBB54DPnYKs7/k4C0E/47ogGdEg=; b=vP0d8U4V1ScZjrnHP0pirkovrL4ryL1RJkFsOzLlRLncAZFfs9OICpP/KGoaFNtC9E w5IbLz6al2/xI3almQT5tDYy0Qlot8C90IG96EysHVIiZoHQDlcoKsJ7rANS2BM8fmpq k70M1TE0M3QUHcv3iFK49ZYbuEseci6THQiYY= DomainKey-Signature: a=rsa-sha1; c=nofws; d=gmail.com; s=gamma; h=mime-version:date:message-id:subject:from:to:content-type; b=DtoH8RCtHUb2nTAeZV3RHOEMU7ilW8dSX60AUjZmcmqPlGcqSux6cO09umUBJnFtvM b7ZGxCqt3iIT8yy9TrgYV4f0U4jsOlc84HArvSn4Fg+os9VPxv7c+cWWx2j1jTXtX32O lhKBVI/DUoOmz8HY9sdNpnlt2h5ZTeikplYrU= MIME-Version: 1.0 Received: by 10.224.31.80 with SMTP id x16mr3718048qac.73.1307527986495; Wed, 08 Jun 2011 03:13:06 -0700 (PDT) Received: by 10.229.89.200 with HTTP; Wed, 8 Jun 2011 03:13:06 -0700 (PDT) Date: Wed, 8 Jun 2011 14:13:06 +0400 Message-ID: Subject: Can coreutils stat dismounted filesystem?
