Fixed, although note that bzr discourages such usage:

bzr --version
  Bazaar (bzr) 2.2.2

bzr whoami --branch "Gnus developers"
  "Gnus developers" does not seem to contain an email address.  This
  is allowed, but not recommended.

Why not add eg ding <at> gnus?
