After having installed the latest emacs-snapshot (Debian) package,
version 1:20101212-1, bytecode compilation has failed during postinst.

The log generated in /tmp/ reads:

Please feel free to contribute a test framework which tries to
install each Debian-packaged extension individually (in a sandbox)
and reports failures. I don't use apel, emacs-goodies-el or any of
the usual suspects myself.
