The reason is that mumi on the server side attempts to reindex the complete 20 GiB something of mail archives every 5 minutes, which takes 20 minutes to complete. I've been thinking along the same lines > as well. I can come up with something, but do you have any suggestions > off the bat? There's already some code to avoid doing a full re-indexing of the archived messages, but it wasn't actually used until commit 0e8852b3 ("scripts: Do not loose arguments when looping in `update-state!'.") in mumi, which is recent. I think reconfiguring mumi at its latest commit could already help, although the update-state! code currently will run a full update every 10 times, and it's currently configured to run every 30 seconds although our rsync of debbugs data is every 5 minutes. We'll have to tweak these values so that a full reindex doesn't happen so often (perhaps once per day would be sufficient). The rsync could be made a bit more aggressively (every minute perhaps) to help reactivity. -- Thanks, Maxim From unknown Tue Jun 17 22:29:35 2025 X-Loop: help-debbugs@gnu.org Subject: bug#74395: 'mumi send-email' fails to detect created issue number Resent-From: Maxim Cournoyer Original-Sender: "Debbugs-submit" Resent-CC: bug-guix@gnu.org Resent-Date: Thu, 13 Feb 2025 05:07:02 +0000 Resent-Message-ID: Resent-Sender: help-debbugs@gnu.org X-GNU-PR-Message: followup 74395 X-GNU-PR-Package: guix X-GNU-PR-Keywords: To: Arun Isaac Cc: 74395@debbugs.gnu.org Received: via spool by 74395-submit@debbugs.gnu.org id=B74395.173942316720761 (code B ref 74395); Thu, 13 Feb 2025 05:07:02 +0000 Received: (at 74395) by debbugs.gnu.org; 13 Feb 2025 05:06:07 +0000 Received: from localhost ([127.0.0.1]:39493 helo=debbugs.gnu.org) by debbugs.gnu.org with esmtp (Exim 4.84_2) (envelope-from ) id 1tiRQN-0005On-2N for submit@debbugs.gnu.org; Thu, 13 Feb 2025 00:06:07 -0500 Received: from mail-pl1-x629.google.com ([2607:f8b0:4864:20::629]:53313) by debbugs.gnu.org with esmtps (TLS1.2:ECDHE_RSA_AES_128_GCM_SHA256:128) (Exim 4.84_2) (envelope-from ) id 1tiRQJ-0005OF-Tr for 74395@debbugs.gnu.org; Thu, 13 Feb 2025 00:06:04 -0500 Received: by mail-pl1-x629.google.com with SMTP id d9443c01a7336-21f55fbb72bso6916715ad.2 for <74395@debbugs.gnu.org>; Wed, 12 Feb 2025 21:06:03 -0800 (PST) DKIM-Signature: v=1; a=rsa-sha256; c=relaxed/relaxed; d=gmail.com; s=20230601; t=1739423156; x=1740027956; darn=debbugs.gnu.org; h=mime-version:user-agent:message-id:date:references:in-reply-to :subject:cc:to:from:from:to:cc:subject:date:message-id:reply-to; bh=iBiP823hJmmS5qZtEnjfAaNq9E9vYUgxuqWuPrWz+00=; b=ddu3MpE5O9t/n0EBFUkMgvIGKrY795oFjF1G0sCZ6Z+dY+yMbnjf5+bSLIhSKH8R1j BrkFbtX5P+ndWprpQrh4adjVQJzllnYe/EQ7xfssruVoNpxEVR3c+OM1RNz1S/9zeTWC mYoSI7zXyJo2EKzamqXAPNERQvyJZpMRzkXRFaOqrksXdYyFnrIdrqmzhcogSV0Mjib8 4cjBIrlQrrLAlrH2rW9lhhcmTrGg3lp7CQwcKZBslWNw4gIdtcaE1iAU5dEmpbXlNS3Z 3ck8iKKiWLJ0yJ1DuIus16ZGOwbf6xqMF3dXmwa3RSb3FldTAZ4WNhVK5f/hpnFLSmbU q2Lw== X-Google-DKIM-Signature: v=1; a=rsa-sha256; c=relaxed/relaxed; d=1e100.net; s=20230601; t=1739423156; x=1740027956; h=mime-version:user-agent:message-id:date:references:in-reply-to :subject:cc:to:from:x-gm-message-state:from:to:cc:subject:date :message-id:reply-to; bh=iBiP823hJmmS5qZtEnjfAaNq9E9vYUgxuqWuPrWz+00=; b=VAXSoS8qjPSy4lpNCzbcgZnDGi40Fw3v0MY3gWXFAs2RddYi1Qsvn4jA4Abk1mzuEN FV+8dFAqnN2o5vZPeZVugutAOvycOD7d9UnZtTNzDfR13HqE5RCWHFioqm3L9udsDoZb gRwisHxQzYK6rGdSuaaQBXQ2JvhA8+LL9dHI+/UJeQhRSf9iX/1+ePbNFbzXn8yKTk05 6omb4L/3HbpqPKNLo/6Vw69z6YIxlgDKly0/jiRhZzx3OQB132Prf9Ukx139M3qtj6um yZda6m30l5FaTKUZWlJrfnefktuD0SwQareVY9isnL6g1oJrXMufCgPPHpaNqt/ASZvl QwFQ== X-Gm-Message-State: AOJu0Ywt1dvUVEQQNrMU+qJBnd474deY7cVpzcdVHwbseuV5KCuqJXpD rxzm/IIesyMN/XJ86Mthja/fUfK5O+6bQ9wqBxEldkhyX6YIkIf5uER4Rw== X-Gm-Gg: ASbGncua9AhCQzKx0EkYQ7oX2Y4jwBNEjQ1y+DFvowK/JHpntF3m02QgUzZGhPipJt9 +Q1VQTE+trCEPxFycawGa0wRalTMJzP1w2aMqdwjK2sRiKVf0GBA/j1zjBu/D3ZJfykWnIi55xU F+Wyp9572wlE0nyajGgDEKkJSXXmCh5RTqf42zy4lM/U9sY+WYvwgtMWNszDgSHGq7+ANdhjVJW Etn8CZKxtIEbHzRwvVR5J/Xe5EUqKNIEABZ+yQG/+b/1sQdEF8Mlq9aP08WZhXJciRQ87oARXNM 4LT/V3kNi8LH X-Google-Smtp-Source: AGHT+IHnizBIYR13HynSVoJ5UavqsuC2bWJ1MRfYJiN6uWvcKmGBJrJ7qHPJ4cocTK1ToUN7wNxQGA== X-Received: by 2002:a17:902:f60d:b0:216:1543:195d with SMTP id d9443c01a7336-220d20da78bmr31692765ad.25.1739423156399; Wed, 12 Feb 2025 21:05:56 -0800 (PST) Received: from terra ([2405:6586:be0:0:c8ff:1707:9b9:af89]) by smtp.gmail.com with ESMTPSA id d9443c01a7336-220d5596115sm3841705ad.258.2025.02.12.21.05.54 (version=TLS1_3 cipher=TLS_AES_256_GCM_SHA384 bits=256/256); Wed, 12 Feb 2025 21:05:55 -0800 (PST) From: Maxim Cournoyer In-Reply-To: <87ed032p7f.fsf@systemreboot.net> (Arun Isaac's message of "Wed, 12 Feb 2025 14:49:08 +0000") References: <871pzaf3v3.fsf@gmail.com> <87a5arqsgu.fsf@gmail.com> <87pljn2u9q.fsf@systemreboot.net> <87ed032p7f.fsf@systemreboot.net> Date: Thu, 13 Feb 2025 14:05:43 +0900 Message-ID: <87v7temo2g.fsf@gmail.com> User-Agent: Gnus/5.13 (Gnus v5.13) MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain X-Spam-Score: 0.0 (/) X-BeenThere: debbugs-submit@debbugs.gnu.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.18 Precedence: list List-Id: List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , Errors-To: debbugs-submit-bounces@debbugs.gnu.org Sender: "Debbugs-submit" X-Spam-Score: -1.0 (-) Hi Arun, Arun Isaac writes: >> I can come up with something, but do you have any suggestions off the >> bat? > > My first instinct would be to look at the timestamps of changed log > files and only reindex those. It sounds like a fun fix to come up with, but I'm already swamped trying ot finish tens of unfinished things, so by all means, go ahead if you have time/interest in fixing it! Some thoughts I had: Not sure if rsync produces some kind of lock file while they're busy updating the tree; if they do it could be useful to avoid re-indexing while it's actively syncing. It would be even nicer to send some signal to mumi when rsync completes, which would notify it to re-index. Other things that may be useful: inotify to keep track of new/updated files. Currently it's every 5 minutes; we could make try perhaps every minute, but it should block when it's already running. I think the new Shepherd timer API would allow defining it as such. -- Thanks, Maxim From unknown Tue Jun 17 22:29:35 2025 X-Loop: help-debbugs@gnu.org Subject: bug#74395: closed (Re: 'mumi send-email' fails to detect created issue number) Resent-From: Arun Isaac Original-Sender: "Debbugs-submit" Resent-CC: bug-mumi@gnu.org Resent-Date: Sun, 16 Mar 2025 16:49:01 +0000 Resent-Message-ID: Resent-Sender: help-debbugs@gnu.org X-GNU-PR-Message: followup 74395 X-GNU-PR-Package: mumi X-GNU-PR-Keywords: To: Maxim Cournoyer Cc: 74395@debbugs.gnu.org Received: via spool by 74395-submit@debbugs.gnu.org id=B74395.17421437017607 (code B ref 74395); Sun, 16 Mar 2025 16:49:01 +0000 Received: (at 74395) by debbugs.gnu.org; 16 Mar 2025 16:48:21 +0000 Received: from localhost ([127.0.0.1]:50504 helo=debbugs.gnu.org) by debbugs.gnu.org with esmtp (Exim 4.84_2) (envelope-from ) id 1ttr9w-0001ya-Ph for submit@debbugs.gnu.org; Sun, 16 Mar 2025 12:48:21 -0400 Received: from mugam.systemreboot.net ([139.59.75.54]:43708) by debbugs.gnu.org with esmtps (TLS1.2:ECDHE_RSA_AES_256_GCM_SHA384:256) (Exim 4.84_2) (envelope-from ) id 1ttr9s-0001yA-Sh for 74395@debbugs.gnu.org; Sun, 16 Mar 2025 12:48:19 -0400 DKIM-Signature: v=1; a=rsa-sha256; c=relaxed/relaxed; d=systemreboot.net; s=default; t=1742143671; h=from:from:reply-to:subject:subject:date:date:message-id:message-id: to:to:cc:cc:mime-version:mime-version:content-type:content-type: in-reply-to:in-reply-to:references:references; bh=akVM5p1g0Y893GH/w45orP4A5bzaHJU39xaADIcsUU0=; b=OAnOCxM7k9+I02zU8jpW8nF3HdBGrGBK00GUgWeJ74JVzoJgPqK4AhE1+759YirM+WyDMD wZkxnKuupLh6VnP+Q1yz4jkoiQqf2a2BtkwZw+5oCMWw8+G+F6/EDclYDnKL1cux/6baSE wtb0js7dkZ9HFEnI/FVskKEykCqbDrwtr2dHBhFvdjO+YpbLbS2iHFEEk3arZ3HzObMKgB yh0VjvFTZSp/fcDccJvOTAGPZD5JDRlOmBKIVd2ve5YFYidnJWtYbSqGzypQF2ewWo3g/B 1jzVgkneJWtZdITUEtbew9xrnOiD057slFY4jGXmPtWNSdv5CLpZmtWicmaUyw== Received: from localhost ( [192.168.2.1]) by mugam.systemreboot.net (OpenSMTPD) with ESMTPSA id 1d4c0f48 (TLSv1.3:TLS_AES_256_GCM_SHA384:256:NO); Sun, 16 Mar 2025 16:47:50 +0000 (UTC) From: Arun Isaac In-Reply-To: <87msdl19w7.fsf@gmail.com> References: <87jz8sml3y.fsf@systemreboot.net> <871pzaf3v3.fsf@gmail.com> <87msdl19w7.fsf@gmail.com> Date: Sun, 16 Mar 2025 16:47:45 +0000 Message-ID: <874izsly6m.fsf@systemreboot.net> MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain X-Spam-Score: 0.0 (/) X-BeenThere: debbugs-submit@debbugs.gnu.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.18 Precedence: list List-Id: List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , Errors-To: debbugs-submit-bounces@debbugs.gnu.org Sender: "Debbugs-submit" X-Spam-Score: -1.0 (-) Hi Maxim, > Should we also raise the frequency of the rsync job?
