Basically any reftex operation (e.g. table of contents, C-c =) freeze the full emacs. It starts using 100% but doesn't react to any keystroke, (including C-g), the menubar is frozen as well. The frame (X11 window) is refreshed, but I cannot close it by clicking on the "close window". It freezes even without using any explicit command: If I try to type \ref{label:valami} into a buffer, then it will freeze at the next character I press. Since I've never gotten commit access to the Emacs repository I haven't bothered to follow the switch to Bazaar. It might take a while to make myself acquainted with it. And unfortunately I failed to find a web interface to the current Emacs sources in order to find out if somebody has changed the RefTeX files, or in which way. At the moment I can only say that the RefTeX version maintained in the AUCTeX repository is working fine with a one year old development version of Emacs, but that likely doesn't help much. And unfortunately I failed to find a web > interface to the current Emacs sources in order to find out if somebody > has changed the RefTeX files, or in which way. I suspect the change is not in the reftex file but in the behavior of up-list which now obeys forward-sexp-function, which means that under latex-mode, it will now move from \begin{foo} >here< \end{foo} to just before the \begin. So if the reftex code does not expect that (and/or for performance reason doesn't want that), it should protect against it by binding forward-sexp-function around calls to up-list and friends. AUCTeX also uses `up-list' at a few occasions (it's even bound to a key for AUCTeX users), so I'll have to check if the respective functions will be broken by the changes in Emacs as well. -- Ralf From unknown Tue Aug 19 23:14:00 2025 X-Loop: help-debbugs@gnu.org Subject: bug#7053: Reftex is fully broken Resent-From: =?UTF-8?Q?Alp=C3=A1r_?= =?UTF-8?Q?J=C3=BCttner?= Original-Sender: debbugs-submit-bounces@debbugs.gnu.org Resent-To: owner@debbugs.gnu.org Resent-CC: bug-gnu-emacs@gnu.org Resent-Date: Sun, 19 Sep 2010 05:29:02 +0000 Resent-Message-ID: Resent-Sender: help-debbugs@gnu.org X-GNU-PR-Message: followup 7053 X-GNU-PR-Package: emacs X-GNU-PR-Keywords: To: Eli Zaretskii Cc: auctex-devel@gnu.org, 7053@debbugs.gnu.org, Carsten Dominik Received: via spool by 7053-submit@debbugs.gnu.org id=B7053.128487409226558 (code B ref 7053); Sun, 19 Sep 2010 05:29:02 +0000 Received: (at 7053) by debbugs.gnu.org; 19 Sep 2010 05:28:12 +0000 Received: from localhost ([127.0.0.1] helo=debbugs.gnu.org) by debbugs.gnu.org with esmtp (Exim 4.69) (envelope-from ) id 1OxCRf-0006uJ-Ox for submit@debbugs.gnu.org; Sun, 19 Sep 2010 01:28:12 -0400 Received: from mail-fx0-f44.google.com ([209.85.161.44]) by debbugs.gnu.org with esmtp (Exim 4.69) (envelope-from ) id 1OxCLX-0006rc-3N for 7053@debbugs.gnu.org; Sun, 19 Sep 2010 01:21:51 -0400 Received: by fxm9 with SMTP id 9so212785fxm.3 for <7053@debbugs.gnu.org>; Sat, 18 Sep 2010 22:24:17 -0700 (PDT) DKIM-Signature: v=1; a=rsa-sha256; c=relaxed/relaxed; d=gmail.com; s=gamma; h=domainkey-signature:received:received:sender:subject:from:to:cc :in-reply-to:references:content-type:date:message-id:mime-version :x-mailer:content-transfer-encoding; bh=I85z3mMbGHGOOCiBzYeIidRahIQ8gST78KaVa0vhidA=; b=DQmCR0hhiq06rquI2mSVQu24lVzhUXy4sFIQk/iAj4/tWf2hEV/9QIh7MBh74ISfpa krqGTYZSNJ1ZoZa0Imcs+AFAA06QGaUA+n82hI5RCbdN0m8sSRWrCh2i1MX1i6UAsJrN TkdN0m2fm9D5+cNMZg7XZ9j5LAcB0HEKLnslg= DomainKey-Signature: a=rsa-sha1; c=nofws; d=gmail.com; s=gamma; h=sender:subject:from:to:cc:in-reply-to:references:content-type:date :message-id:mime-version:x-mailer:content-transfer-encoding; b=AI9mgrFc1AtJ2Y+51OeTu7ylUKLkdWoj6GHbTWNEJdu/NOF8k4ZtCFDC15tHO8/PMJ TNfLNISvfQrIXThE3h1NwuCly6tkP2iBZx4FJn/47fszMoolrC8qnEmtOVkClb6B3S/L watACzX6DHGdeIGYdDDxcMvHFDMOpevZ40jQk= Received: by 10.223.104.14 with SMTP id m14mr3071853fao.95.1284873856949; Sat, 18 Sep 2010 22:24:16 -0700 (PDT) Received: from [192.168.1.100] (87.97.51.154.pool.invitel.hu [87.97.51.154]) by mx.google.com with ESMTPS id p2sm2334987fak.46.2010.09.18.22.24.14 (version=SSLv3 cipher=RC4-MD5); Sat, 18 Sep 2010 22:24:15 -0700 (PDT) From: =?UTF-8?Q?Alp=C3=A1r_?= =?UTF-8?Q?J=C3=BCttner?= In-Reply-To: <83mxrfz9se.fsf@gnu.org> References: <1284716487.5481.61.camel@piko.site> <83pqwc1t9p.fsf@gnu.org> <1284731388.5452.8.camel@piko.site> <83eics1guw.fsf@gnu.org> <1284783571.3343.8.camel@piko.site> <83mxrfz9se.fsf@gnu.org> Content-Type: text/plain; charset="UTF-8" Date: Sun, 19 Sep 2010 07:24:13 +0200 Message-ID: <1284873853.3330.55.camel@piko.site> Mime-Version: 1.0 X-Mailer: Evolution 2.30.1.2 Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit X-Spam-Score: -2.6 (--) X-Mailman-Approved-At: Sun, 19 Sep 2010 01:28:10 -0400 X-BeenThere: debbugs-submit@debbugs.gnu.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.11 Precedence: list List-Id: List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , Sender: debbugs-submit-bounces@debbugs.gnu.org Errors-To: debbugs-submit-bounces@debbugs.gnu.org X-Spam-Score: -2.6 (--) > Thanks. If you have a bzr repository on your machine, then "bzr bisect" is a local operation that doesn't involve any network traffic or negotiation with the remote repository. Suggest to revert this change. Both forms differ considerable from the users view BTW. While the list handling code is easy to grasp and looks well defined, the sexp-grammar with its "balanced expression" even after years sounds arcane for me. forward-list etc. also have been reliable to deal with in coding, sexp... not that much Please keep the lisp-list-functions. I think in the end, the core reason for the problem was a bug in the new up-list code (it just silently did nothing when reaching BOB), which I've just fixed. I also additionally installed the patch below which circumvents the bug and also avoids slowing things down unnecessarily.
