With emacs -Q on 29, evaluate:

(setq display-buffer-alist
      '(((derived-mode . Info-mode)
         display-buffer-in-side-window
         (side . right)
         (window-width . fit-window-to-buffer))))

Then press C-h i

Expected: Info-mode buffer pops up in right side window.

Actual: Info-mode buffer pops up in full frame.

At this point, pressing C-h i once more does open a right side window.

I haven't been able to reproduce this this issue with any other mode.
