So why would > a Lisp program need to require it, let alone load it? Emacs provides =E2=80=98elint-current-buffer=E2=80=99, =E2=80=98elint-defun= =E2=80=99, =E2=80=98elint-directory=E2=80=99, =E2=80=98elint-file=E2=80=99, which report warnings for references to undef= ined symbols when there is no =E2=80=98provide=E2=80=99 that provides definitions. So, = for example, a reference to =E2=80=98page-delimiter=E2=80=99 (defined in paragraphs.el) = will cause =E2=80=98elint=E2=80=99 to issue a warning, despite the fact that =E2=80=98= paragraphs.el=E2=80=99 has been preloaded. This might be a problem with =E2=80=98elint=E2=80=99 since paragraphs.el is= included in the files that it loads, even in batch mode. If it *is* an error in =E2=80=98elint=E2=80=99, then that should be fixed so that the invalid warn= ing messages are not included among valid warning and error messages. Or, =E2=80=98elin= t=E2=80=99 might be behaving correctly by looking through a list of =E2=80=98provides= =E2=80=99 in order to resolve references, rather than what has been preloaded. --
