Zhanks for the report, I could reproduce it. However, it doesn't seem to be a Debbugs bug, but rather a Gnus bug. I've reproduced it by using Gnus w/o Debbugs. For this, I've started a new Emacs instance w/o debbugs. I've opened Gnus, and browsed the gmane server {nntp:news.gmane.io} for the group gmane.lisp.guile.bugs. Message 10682 is the one you've mentioned above. Typing in the Summary buffer 'C-u S v' shows the error. I'm therefore changing the subject, adding Eric Abrahamsen into Cc. > Thank you and have a nice day, > Tomas Volf Best regards, Michael. I can't reproduce this exact result, but I can get buggy behavior -- in my case it pulls in the subject of the *next* message in my Summary buffer, in my case for bug #68506. Actually it seems to do a little something different every time, also depending on whether I have things edebugged or not. Fun! I suspect the prefix argument is being interpreted wrong somehow. I wouldn't be surprised if Tomas's subject line looks like that because '(4) is resulting in four copies of the subject. Tomas, would you first confirm that running "S V" (gnus-summary-very-wide-reply-with-original) behaves correctly? Essentially that's supposed to do exactly what "C-u S v" does, and it works correctly for me, which is part of why I think it's a prefix argument problem. I don't even know why we have all these variants. Thanks for alerting me, Michael. I've put you on BCC assuming you'd prefer to drop off the thread, but if you'd like to continue pitching in, you're more than welcome! :) Eric From debbugs-submit-bounces@debbugs.gnu.org Fri Jan 19 12:05:32 2024 Received: (at 68510) by debbugs.gnu.org; 19 Jan 2024 17:05:32 +0000 Received: from localhost ([127.0.0.1]:60064 helo=debbugs.gnu.org) by debbugs.gnu.org with esmtp (Exim 4.84_2) (envelope-from ) id 1rQsJA-0000Oj-1E for submit@debbugs.gnu.org; Fri, 19 Jan 2024 12:05:32 -0500 Received: from wolfsden.cz ([37.205.8.62]:40954) by debbugs.gnu.org with esmtp (Exim 4.84_2) (envelope-from <~@wolfsden.cz>) id 1rQsJ7-0000OW-31 for 68510@debbugs.gnu.org; Fri, 19 Jan 2024 12:05:30 -0500 Received: by wolfsden.cz (Postfix, from userid 104) id A5D1A257FE1; Fri, 19 Jan 2024 17:05:24 +0000 (UTC) DKIM-Signature: v=1; a=rsa-sha256; c=relaxed/simple; d=wolfsden.cz; s=mail; t=1705683924; bh=Z3L7Bg+r1KYQV/cbnPDsMV+3uNY+abZL/sHVTtrintI=; h=Date:From:To:Cc:Subject:References:In-Reply-To; b=rzkPaydd7XnHx7gCSV3+ErFUHYbSzhqQ1+9+/yzQ2kLsNPL0yJ5TahsT4aGbsxkRk QohOzoBKkw6hO1f1bHkKlzbuUq8lOd5XThw4THIKlNwFBlyNC4XxaUaW3Z+O9gcw7L U+BBfFnz8k1E6LArYSb7+efKM+qmVoTwmyHawFblCIJQ21pNLrp0+NgC5XPS+VAkyK 5Ranv84wJbvH5q90vmCIWuBb28XTkmt+phUSZ7qNwP0jPOmhBUKIwzyw7H7wG/gQ+Z mi+k+F63aikRoGKb5+RowpCKfq5gF0ysS3YXSxDWCW+T2LpekkvvuJm8fSHLClj23l 8fhHoNF0tPuw0iZxkRvpm03gkt9kv0ZZRXQ9yNtEXuQcwTVA8rTLklirWEnuPvaT66 ROKN8Qj8nnuz9i2bXTSF3SwlRkEaUnaWIAw7v0/IRqsisLwlUukJ8+gtcm89RvHq+w zHyNNx3gTKJbV7JrL71/G/Z8KiGBrinCccilEDK4yEhXtG85Qbule/B7t9zlwhxD+H +q4Zbf9/sJj2JfZBOZvrTTQkXpJ1OA6ZNLNf9EC9pYWB71e2M00pmVSGb7D68+zGqz oAeBT0PLpIMuP8xts/ncOHpkS0HAyonHYYtw1lETxzQxrFcxoa59StDD1Z6F7u3QBj 9r8F2KGtZyK7YGH85XtAY8N4= X-Spam-Checker-Version: SpamAssassin 3.4.6 (2021-04-09) on wolfsden X-Spam-Level: X-Spam-Status: No, score=-1.2 required=5.0 tests=ALL_TRUSTED,DKIM_SIGNED, DKIM_VALID,DKIM_VALID_AU,DKIM_VALID_EF,T_SCC_BODY_TEXT_LINE, URIBL_BLOCKED autolearn=unavailable autolearn_force=no version=3.4.6 Received: from localhost (unknown [193.32.127.177]) by wolfsden.cz (Postfix) with ESMTPSA id 287ED257C78; Fri, 19 Jan 2024 17:05:24 +0000 (UTC) DKIM-Signature: v=1; a=rsa-sha256; c=relaxed/simple; d=wolfsden.cz; s=mail; t=1705683924; bh=Z3L7Bg+r1KYQV/cbnPDsMV+3uNY+abZL/sHVTtrintI=; h=Date:From:To:Cc:Subject:References:In-Reply-To; b=rzkPaydd7XnHx7gCSV3+ErFUHYbSzhqQ1+9+/yzQ2kLsNPL0yJ5TahsT4aGbsxkRk QohOzoBKkw6hO1f1bHkKlzbuUq8lOd5XThw4THIKlNwFBlyNC4XxaUaW3Z+O9gcw7L U+BBfFnz8k1E6LArYSb7+efKM+qmVoTwmyHawFblCIJQ21pNLrp0+NgC5XPS+VAkyK 5Ranv84wJbvH5q90vmCIWuBb28XTkmt+phUSZ7qNwP0jPOmhBUKIwzyw7H7wG/gQ+Z mi+k+F63aikRoGKb5+RowpCKfq5gF0ysS3YXSxDWCW+T2LpekkvvuJm8fSHLClj23l 8fhHoNF0tPuw0iZxkRvpm03gkt9kv0ZZRXQ9yNtEXuQcwTVA8rTLklirWEnuPvaT66 ROKN8Qj8nnuz9i2bXTSF3SwlRkEaUnaWIAw7v0/IRqsisLwlUukJ8+gtcm89RvHq+w zHyNNx3gTKJbV7JrL71/G/Z8KiGBrinCccilEDK4yEhXtG85Qbule/B7t9zlwhxD+H +q4Zbf9/sJj2JfZBOZvrTTQkXpJ1OA6ZNLNf9EC9pYWB71e2M00pmVSGb7D68+zGqz oAeBT0PLpIMuP8xts/ncOHpkS0HAyonHYYtw1lETxzQxrFcxoa59StDD1Z6F7u3QBj 9r8F2KGtZyK7YGH85XtAY8N4= Date: Fri, 19 Jan 2024 18:05:23 +0100 From: Tomas Volf <~@wolfsden.cz> To: Eric Abrahamsen Subject: Re: bug#68510: Bug in gnus' C-u S v Message-ID: References: <87jzo5a65y.fsf@gmx.de> <87mst1qp72.fsf@ericabrahamsen.net> MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: multipart/signed; micalg=pgp-sha512; protocol="application/pgp-signature"; boundary="Py90CrMRcYvQ1sr9" Content-Disposition: inline In-Reply-To: <87mst1qp72.fsf@ericabrahamsen.net> X-Spam-Score: -0.0 (/) X-Debbugs-Envelope-To: 68510 Cc: 68510@debbugs.gnu.org X-BeenThere: debbugs-submit@debbugs.gnu.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.18 Precedence: list List-Id: List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , Errors-To: debbugs-submit-bounces@debbugs.gnu.org Sender: "Debbugs-submit" X-Spam-Score: -1.0 (-) --Py90CrMRcYvQ1sr9 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Disposition: inline Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable On 2024-01-19 08:10:25 -0800, Eric Abrahamsen wrote: >=20 > On 01/19/24 12:55 PM, Michael Albinus wrote: > > Tomas Volf <~@wolfsden.cz> writes: > > > >> Hello, > > > > Hi Tomas, > > > >> I think I found a bug in debbugs, however I am not sure if the bug is = in > >> documentation or in the code. Now I see I forgot to s= tate an Emacs version (sorry!), I am using 29.1 release. But based on your description this sounds indeed like a fun bug. >=20 > I suspect the prefix argument is being interpreted wrong somehow. Sorry, still pretty new.) and I still got it 4 times. Maybe the number of repetitions is due to there being 4 messages above this one in the thread? It ended up being pretty obvious what was wrong: the prefix argument is being used *both* to signal that the original message should be yanked, and in the usual process/prefix convention, which is resulting in broken behavior. It should only do one, but I don't know which one yet, so please just don't use "S v" with a prefix argument -- if you need the original yanked, use "S V".
