From: Pete Restall <pete <at> restall.net> To: submit <at> debbugs.gnu.org Subject: Package: config Date: Thu, 16 Nov 2023 10:55:33 +0000
Hello, I'm not sure this is the place to report a bug for this project as it's on Savannah and not in the list here <https://debbugs.gnu.org/Packages.html>. The project in question is <https://savannah.gnu.org/projects/config/> but I didn't see any bug reporting information on that page either. Apologies if this is the wrong place but I'd appreciate it somebody could point me in the right direction in that case. Thank you. I was recently trying to build a cross-compiler for a 32-bit MIPS microcontroller. Originally I contacted the binutils team and Nick has pointed me to the config project as that is the source of the config.sub file that I tracked my issue back to. I was having problems finding a suitable target triplet and I was trying variations of the form 'mips32-none-elf'. It turned out that this 'mips32' prefix was being silently normalised to 'mips64', which I believe is due to these lines in config.sub (line 1055): mips3*-*) cpu=mips64 ;; I've since found the correct triplet for my particular case ('mips-mti- elf') and this is no longer an issue for me, but I do wonder if the coalescing of 'mips32' into 'mips64' is intentional or a bug ? It certainly tripped me up, especially as nothing failed until several builds into the toolchain when GCC complained that the 64-bit ABI was not compatible with the 32-bit target. The simplest reproduction is to just grab the latest binutils- 2.41.tar.gz and run: ./configure --target=mips32-none-eabi The log for that is included below and you can see that it's succeeded but silently coalesced 'mips32' -> 'mips64'. Thank you. Regards, Pete Restall --- This file contains any messages produced by compilers while running configure, to aid debugging if configure makes a mistake.
