Just in case you didn't know and it might be of some help/reference: (info "(gnus)Headers") (info "(gnus)Terminology") My take on it is: consistency surely is nice, but I never felt this to be a problem with Gnus (IOW, I see there is a lot of problems with inconsistent identifier naming, not only in Gnus, but in Emacs in general (as in any software of its size), but I don't see a problem with headers/fields in particular); bigger concern for me is that some not-necessarily-very-careful-and-well-thought-out change to the manual or even function names as you seem to suggest would make things only worse. =C5=A0t=C4=9Bp=C3=A1n From debbugs-submit-bounces@debbugs.gnu.org Tue Jul 20 16:28:52 2010 Received: (at 6675) by debbugs.gnu.org; 20 Jul 2010 20:28:52 +0000 Received: from localhost ([127.0.0.1] helo=debbugs.gnu.org) by debbugs.gnu.org with esmtp (Exim 4.69) (envelope-from ) id 1ObJQq-00055X-E3 for submit@debbugs.gnu.org; Tue, 20 Jul 2010 16:28:52 -0400 Received: from ppsw-32.csi.cam.ac.uk ([131.111.8.132]) by debbugs.gnu.org with esmtp (Exim 4.69) (envelope-from ) id 1ObJQo-00055S-Dy for 6675@debbugs.gnu.org; Tue, 20 Jul 2010 16:28:51 -0400 X-Cam-AntiVirus: no malware found X-Cam-SpamDetails: not scanned X-Cam-ScannerInfo: http://www.cam.ac.uk/cs/email/scanner/ Received: from cpc1-cmbg13-0-0-cust596.cmbg.cable.ntl.com ([86.9.122.85]:54031 helo=Victoria.local) by ppsw-32.csi.cam.ac.uk (smtp.hermes.cam.ac.uk [131.111.8.158]:587) with esmtpsa (PLAIN:sl392) (TLSv1:DHE-RSA-AES128-SHA:128) id 1ObJRC-0002hD-2J (Exim 4.72) (return-path ); Tue, 20 Jul 2010 21:29:14 +0100 From: Leo To: =?utf-8?B?xaB0xJtww6FuIE7Em21lYw==?= Subject: Re: bug#6675: 23.2; field, header and headers References: <87tynuses5.fsf@gmail.com> Date: Tue, 20 Jul 2010 21:29:12 +0100 In-Reply-To: <87tynuses5.fsf@gmail.com> (=?utf-8?B?IsWgdMSbcMOhbiBOxJtt?= =?utf-8?B?ZWMiJ3M=?= message of "Tue, 20 Jul 2010 11:06:50 +0200") Message-ID: User-Agent: Gnus/5.13 (Gnus v5.13) Emacs/23.2 (Mac OS X 10.6.4) MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=utf-8 Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable X-Spam-Score: -6.3 (------) X-Debbugs-Envelope-To: 6675 Cc: 6675@debbugs.gnu.org X-BeenThere: debbugs-submit@debbugs.gnu.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.11 Precedence: list List-Id: List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , Sender: debbugs-submit-bounces@debbugs.gnu.org Errors-To: debbugs-submit-bounces@debbugs.gnu.org X-Spam-Score: -6.3 (------) On 2010-07-20 10:06 +0100, =C5=A0t=C4=9Bp=C3=A1n N=C4=9Bmec wrote: > Just in case you didn't know and it might be of some help/reference: > > (info "(gnus)Headers") > (info "(gnus)Terminology") Anyway, having a closer look at mail/, I found it also has inconsistency. > My take on it is: consistency surely is nice, but I never felt this to > be a problem with Gnus (IOW, I see there is a lot of problems with > inconsistent identifier naming, not only in Gnus, but in Emacs in > general (as in any software of its size), but I don't see a problem > with headers/fields in particular); bigger concern for me is that some > not-necessarily-very-careful-and-well-thought-out change to the manual > or even function names as you seem to suggest would make things only > worse.
