Subject: bug#66631: 29.1; [feature-request] hl-line-mode: add option to distinguish between two parts of the line
Date: Thu, 19 Oct 2023 10:35:06 +0200
Severity: wishlist

Hello list. I'd like to propose the following feature request:

Provide a (convenient) way to make hl-line-mode use two different
colors for two different parts of the (visual) line:
- One color for the part of the line where there is actual text (from A to B).
- Another color for the rest of the visual line (from B to C).

I'd definitely like and use such a feature. It would give me some
interesting visual information about:
* The line I'm currently on.
* The point where the actual text ends (spotting possible trailing
whitespace, etc...).

TIA.

Footnotes:
- A is the beginning of the line (left margin of the window).
- B is just after the last character of the line.
- C is the right margin of the window.
