I'm on debian and, after your note I downgraded the webkit dev packge
and re-compiled emacs.

It works, now.

My dpkg.log shows that I started out at

libwebkit2gtk-4.0-dev:amd64=2.42.1-1~deb11u1

and ended up at

libwebkit2gtk-4.0-dev:amd64 2.40.5-1~deb11u1

This bug can be closed in favor of bug#66068.
