I can prevent this issue by getting the system time "close enough" to the actual time before the NTP sync, but see the first sentence. Not having a network connection also works, but that's somewhat unpractical. Also, the high CPU usage still occurs if a sync is done later. I have yet to encounter the bug post hibernation, but I also wish not to. There doesn't appear to be anything particular interesting in the logs either. There is probably a config setting to tell ntpd to perform the update in a single step, at least I know chrony has one. ps.: don't wait until the battery starts leaking to replace it From unknown Sat Jun 21 12:20:01 2025 X-Loop: help-debbugs@gnu.org Subject: bug#65306: [shepherd] ntpd throws shepherd out of the loop Resent-From: Timotej Lazar Original-Sender: "Debbugs-submit" Resent-CC: bug-guix@gnu.org Resent-Date: Tue, 15 Aug 2023 14:28:02 +0000 Resent-Message-ID: Resent-Sender: help-debbugs@gnu.org X-GNU-PR-Message: followup 65306 X-GNU-PR-Package: guix X-GNU-PR-Keywords: To: Liliana Marie Prikler , 65306@debbugs.gnu.org Received: via spool by 65306-submit@debbugs.gnu.org id=B65306.169210965029008 (code B ref 65306); Tue, 15 Aug 2023 14:28:02 +0000 Received: (at 65306) by debbugs.gnu.org; 15 Aug 2023 14:27:30 +0000 Received: from localhost ([127.0.0.1]:36430 helo=debbugs.gnu.org) by debbugs.gnu.org with esmtp (Exim 4.84_2) (envelope-from ) id 1qVv18-0007Xo-HV for submit@debbugs.gnu.org; Tue, 15 Aug 2023 10:27:30 -0400 Received: from static.51.243.21.65.clients.your-server.de ([65.21.243.51]:34520 helo=localhost) by debbugs.gnu.org with esmtp (Exim 4.84_2) (envelope-from ) id 1qVv15-0007Xb-FR for 65306@debbugs.gnu.org; Tue, 15 Aug 2023 10:27:30 -0400 DKIM-Signature: v=1; a=rsa-sha256; c=simple/simple; s=20230811; bh=vRvamNCSYKS yQKzFN7NLFxxs/zsRK+sOzpjE1nMVeHY=; h=date:references:in-reply-to: subject:to:from; d=araneo.si; b=dZiIEBk5Wg9ZqLydePwJHUgVxosSjeVgb8cGSV 16Cgog6UxY3t+NaUQc2QdL9syWawqfdVrYSKzjNP7jQ2v8dVr0SVkMadIvaojgNpStuo1s ib35uULrrVnbHTZL6QlTkA0k9o1JrpKijDpFuxiS7eSUUuFHJjLyql8bPZhUXao= Received: by araneo.si (OpenSMTPD) with ESMTPSA id 052d237d (TLSv1.3:TLS_AES_256_GCM_SHA384:256:NO); Tue, 15 Aug 2023 14:27:24 +0000 (UTC) From: Timotej Lazar In-Reply-To: <464a337f57514620ffcae1e426a376c6d034a4e8.camel@gmail.com> References: <464a337f57514620ffcae1e426a376c6d034a4e8.camel@gmail.com> Date: Tue, 15 Aug 2023 16:27:21 +0200 Message-ID: <87h6p0bcty.fsf@araneo.si> MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain X-Spam-Score: 3.6 (+++) X-Spam-Report: Spam detection software, running on the system "debbugs.gnu.org", has NOT identified this incoming email as spam. I have this issue on all Guix systems without a (working) RTC. It seems to be caused by a recentish update to guile-fibers: https://github.com/wingo/fibers/issues/89 For me this happens regardless of whether the system time is pushed forward manually or by ntpd. Depending on the time delta and CPU speed, the usage returns to normal after a couple of days. During that time any socket-activated services like SSH are also unreachable. Cheers ------------=_1694191861-7888-1--
