Your bug report will be posted to the bug-gnu-emacs@gnu.org mailing list, and to the gnu.emacs.bug news group. Please describe exactly what actions triggered the bug and the precise symptoms of the bug: I'm using ERC. I was having a private chat with a user "mjw". His connect dropped, so he started another private session with me using a different nick. Then "mjw" finally dropped off irc, so he did "/name mjw" and continued talking to me. At this point I got: error in process filter: setq: Buffer name `mjw' is in use In this instance I was able to continue talking to him, but I think sometimes this error has resulted in messages just being dropped. If Emacs crashed, and you have the Emacs process in the gdb debugger, please include the output from the following gdb commands: `bt full' and `xbacktrace'. If you would like to further debug the crash, please read the file /usr/share/emacs/23.1/etc/DEBUG for instructions.
