Agreed. If there is a need for newer public rust version, please go through the maintainers' note above the 'rust' variable: ;;; Note: Only the latest versions of Rust are supported and tested. The ;;; intermediate rusts are built for bootstrapping purposes and should not ;;; be relied upon. This is to ease maintenance and reduce the time ;;; required to build the full Rust bootstrap chain. ;;; ;;; Here we take the latest included Rust, make it public, and re-enable tests ;;; and extra components such as rustfmt. Usually the whole collection keeps building with the latest rust version as it's backward compatible, I think, so it's not as much work as it may look like. How 1.60 could be the latest compared to 1.65? Said differently, why 1.65 is packaged if it is unusable? Even, what is the point to maintain 1.61, 1.62, 1.63, 1.64 and 1.65 if they are unexported and unusable? These 5 versions are not part of the bootstrap of 1.60. If the work for updating the Rust ecosystem is a work in progress and this work is currently in the middle, why is it not done in a dedicated branch? It's an internal package. You won't find it at the CLI, so you can't really say that "it's packaged" :-). > If the work for updating the Rust ecosystem is a work in progress and > this work is currently in the middle, why is it not done in a dedicated > branch? With the new teams flow, I hope that can be used for that way too. I'd prefer always having the leaf rust package exported and no newer trailing but not there yet variants. I think we all agree. We just need a champion to do it :-). --=20 Thanks, Maxim From debbugs-submit-bounces@debbugs.gnu.org Mon Apr 03 23:51:37 2023 Received: (at control) by debbugs.gnu.org; 4 Apr 2023 03:51:37 +0000 Received: from localhost ([127.0.0.1]:46216 helo=debbugs.gnu.org) by debbugs.gnu.org with esmtp (Exim 4.84_2) (envelope-from ) id 1pjXho-0005Ib-Lw for submit@debbugs.gnu.org; Mon, 03 Apr 2023 23:51:36 -0400 Received: from mail-qv1-f48.google.com ([209.85.219.48]:45876) by debbugs.gnu.org with esmtp (Exim 4.84_2) (envelope-from ) id 1pjXhn-0005IO-3N for control@debbugs.gnu.org; Mon, 03 Apr 2023 23:51:35 -0400 Received: by mail-qv1-f48.google.com with SMTP id m16so22555083qvi.12 for ; Mon, 03 Apr 2023 20:51:35 -0700 (PDT) DKIM-Signature: v=1; a=rsa-sha256; c=relaxed/relaxed; d=gmail.com; s=20210112; t=1680580289; x=1683172289; h=subject:from:to:message-id:date:from:to:cc:subject:date:message-id :reply-to; bh=FP3POTIoIPlORti1TNUw5gMu/vV6FQl31O2KIrY+mME=; b=dINLSKF7bigUzSq5YsJyQ5gBZtIhI53bQM3Pvdf0fC3xMNGd636yq78LCX6e8X4OhS Su6o9zTzlCzWWXvbXRPWKmbzMZBIz8xowjE2zWezxkzJuuRx5i1O2SWlneM+iZj64ZRr sib4lI0X4IJw4MrZAHS9gZRTzlLPKF6i3QxhxFOslQ+nTmjbiPfcdOH+0W+QEyg9GB+r qhf1CGtziEzcXJi/vPsUs4/GOum05cOo4ks5deSGQkhEomIxiweXnkPu4g28ksEDlqMm ltlAKND0O3ULhxlphPfim05LU38Vz9HGVYe/rdWsEuVat948fVpAJ5kKQH187l2vwnun xR/Q== X-Google-DKIM-Signature: v=1; a=rsa-sha256; c=relaxed/relaxed; d=1e100.net; s=20210112; t=1680580289; x=1683172289; h=subject:from:to:message-id:date:x-gm-message-state:from:to:cc :subject:date:message-id:reply-to; bh=FP3POTIoIPlORti1TNUw5gMu/vV6FQl31O2KIrY+mME=; b=MBzotHgBMYpo9fsWZxbQZOusOZWhQhkL+8bfdRZq9dC5NMM8LfbGKSXfdKZLmaLmMS 6pI5LMmRNCfvIGPBE4h0S2mSRuiH6OTbTCfnraBK8sJ8A7kH7C/Pqf+rhoySghk+k0Op GLDhkJmMqvyX2DWfL81flSJke6NG0OVXhPrz9uObG6AFDm9eIJfzCBruUa/k4gOvskwt AYLNclaPh0i2z0Tdt42yxrCyEFfOwatZLJCxJK8hX7D6on/thR3aFzC3k6I3yEJ8/yXh IavnyxFUNZHvO4ShtYFXjQR1Mavam9sP2SqAboGVswrbywp76xjRNZ/UKb33AP+YaTwg f45g== X-Gm-Message-State: AAQBX9eIAP6M4/cRBvU9cTtDzSFK6lx2voZvMRriIPnm5A4Obs+H1/qU M+4ZkgU4k8YfW6rnwG0P19jMhGYuIAU= X-Google-Smtp-Source: AKy350Y55jP3u1KFqD8G2f4fTi4+jNeZUostcyZxmN6r0UNEUiUmTCTd409Y4eTM5rKefgG90ISWEQ== X-Received: by 2002:a05:6214:2246:b0:537:7484:8d1c with SMTP id c6-20020a056214224600b0053774848d1cmr1900060qvc.30.1680580289457; Mon, 03 Apr 2023 20:51:29 -0700 (PDT) Received: from hurd (dsl-205-151-56-17.b2b2c.ca.
