Or maybe even entire partition? It's highly likely that there already exist GUI wrappers for shred. However, coreutils is all about command line interfaces, so this is the wrong place to be implementing such a wrapper. Since you mentioned nautilus, maybe it would be better to forward your request to the nautilus team. --=20 Eric Blake eblake@redhat.com +1-801-349-2682 Libvirt virtualization library http://libvirt.org --------------enig935723A9EA755E9527A6A970 Content-Type: application/pgp-signature; name="signature.asc" Content-Description: OpenPGP digital signature Content-Disposition: attachment; filename="signature.asc" -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.4.10 (GNU/Linux) Comment: Public key at http://people.redhat.com/eblake/eblake.gpg Comment: Using GnuPG with Fedora - http://enigmail.mozdev.org/ iQEcBAEBCAAGBQJL4fbjAAoJEKeha0olJ0Nqp7EH/3LL1+VwF0CK9QJ8sN2qGLao CWHElnXomEo1TMfWB1n9lVPBZUtsBINt8r3DDEnyjstEOQXjLst0h0wo0eNllTUc PKBax2FxljD/pj+D6F9y3BqVYRfiIwcBmKJ9JiHJqFxUaQ3EsiPio3S9u+rNf2EY 6U1/vtvGC/aNAdmH3McOjYTde7gF6qbz9sDS3Y73QAVncJOxseo8niVTThMHmMWz G8DwgC88YpL26KPLVlNDwC1sHWLj9j4DNKEfuIWcVom1ReJPMaSvxNTQOq9yU5d3 po4b4iMwRE1OcLsyyYM3O6AGOH4ZLl30wJ+BwUgLrSny38A092gp+dThLrNfI+o= =YCnS -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- --------------enig935723A9EA755E9527A6A970-- From debbugs-submit-bounces@debbugs.gnu.org Wed May 05 20:37:47 2010 Received: (at 6110) by debbugs.gnu.org; 6 May 2010 00:37:47 +0000 Received: from localhost ([127.0.0.1] helo=debbugs.gnu.org) by debbugs.gnu.org with esmtp (Exim 4.69) (envelope-from ) id 1O9p62-00020N-MW for submit@debbugs.gnu.org; Wed, 05 May 2010 20:37:46 -0400 Received: from joseki.proulx.com ([216.17.153.58]) by debbugs.gnu.org with esmtp (Exim 4.69) (envelope-from ) id 1O9p60-00020F-LS; Wed, 05 May 2010 20:37:45 -0400 Received: from dementia.proulx.com (dementia.proulx.com [192.168.230.115]) by joseki.proulx.com (Postfix) with ESMTP id 5B6D721379; Wed, 5 May 2010 18:37:40 -0600 (MDT) Received: by dementia.proulx.com (Postfix, from userid 1000) id 52E3C3CC3A0; Wed, 5 May 2010 18:37:40 -0600 (MDT) Date: Wed, 5 May 2010 18:37:40 -0600 From: Bob Proulx To: J Subject: Re: bug#6110: shred suggestion Message-ID: <20100506003740.GB32034@dementia.proulx.com> References: <192592.88090.qm@web25001.mail.ukl.yahoo.com> MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Disposition: inline In-Reply-To: <192592.88090.qm@web25001.mail.ukl.yahoo.com> User-Agent: Mutt/1.5.18 (2008-05-17) X-Spam-Score: -2.5 (--) X-Debbugs-Envelope-To: 6110 Cc: 6110@debbugs.gnu.org X-BeenThere: debbugs-submit@debbugs.gnu.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.11 Precedence: list List-Id: List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , Sender: debbugs-submit-bounces@debbugs.gnu.org Errors-To: debbugs-submit-bounces@debbugs.gnu.org X-Spam-Score: -2.5 (--) retitle 6110 shred: Please add GUI interface severity 6110 wishlist tags 6110 + wontfix thanks J wrote: > I'm a newbie but, Please can you make a GUI for this > program. Adding a dependency upon a large and complex graphical library would be in conflict with those needs. Therefore it isn't the right place to add one. But as you suggested Nautilus may be able to add this functionality to their interface. They could call 'shred' on the files you select. It is probably something that you could add for yourself as an extension. http://live.gnome.org/Nautilus You might want to suggest this to them.
