Please also customize 'set-message-functions' so that its first element
is 'inhibit-message'.  Also 'inhibit-message-regexps' should be a list.
These settings should disable the message:

  (setq inhibit-message-regexps '("^Saving"))
  (setq set-message-functions '(inhibit-message))
