Isn't BatangChe a Korean font?  Why do your Japanese fonts get overlooked?

What do the following say (copy to the *scratch* buffer and press Ctrl-J
after each line):

(list-fonts (font-spec :registry "JISX0208*"))
(list-fonts (font-spec :registry "GB2312.1980-0"))
(list-fonts (font-spec :registry "KSC5601.1987*"))
