Ok. Try the following:

1. Save colour.png to /tmp/colour.png (300x300)
2. emacs -Q
3. Open an org file with the following contents

   <point>
   
   [[file:/tmp/colour.png]]

4. C-c C-x C-v
5. Observe 300x300 image displayed
6. Overwrite /tmp/colour.png with colour2.png (500x300)
7. C-c C-x C-v
8. Image disappear
9. C-c C-x C-v
10. _Old_ image appears
11. Move point to the image. Observe image being updated to the correct
    500x300 size
