    Use shortened filenames in recentf-mode
    
    * lisp/recentf.el (recentf-filename-handlers): Set to
    'abbreviate-file-name' to get shortened names by default.  (Bug#56123)

'abbreviate-file-name' tries to establish a connection for remote file
names.
