Being able to customize it and upping the default value are not complete answers. As Stefan said near the current end of the #5122 thread: Clearly, the only real answer is to get rid of blink-matching-paren-distance. We could try and do that, maybe using while-no-input. There is also other discussion in that thread about the general problem and what might be done about it.
