So far I haven't been able to reproduce this:

1. Turn off topic-mode, if necessary.
2. Kill a group, and yank it somewhere else.
3. Re-list groups with "l": sort order doesn't change.
4. Save Gnus, re-list with "l": sort order doesn't change.
5. Shut Gnus down, restart: sort order is preserved.

And I tried the above using the sort commands instead of killing and
yanking groups.

Can you give me a recipe to produce the error?
