If someone has an idea to > conditionally remove this reference to =E2=80=99ghc=E2=80=99? Is it a problem that the latest GHC is used to build the package cache? (Apart from being surprising and suboptimal.) As you noticed once, IIRC, this annoyance matters on powerless hardware because we have this chain of dependencies: $ guix graph --path ghc@8.10 ghc@8.4 ghc@8.10.7 ghc@8.8.4 ghc@8.6.5 ghc@8.4.4 and therefore, if there is no substitute, then it needs to build all. Ok, that=E2=80=99s the game of bootstrapping. :-) However, the current desi= gn implies to also pass all the lengthy Haskell test suite. Well, for the record, I point this old thread [1]. From my remembering, I did some stuff in that direction but I=E2=80=99ve probably l= ost the branch=E2=80=A6 Arf! > =E2=80=A6=E2=80=A6=E2=80=A6=E2=80=A6=E2=80=A6=E2=80=A6=E2=80=A6=E2=80=A6= =E2=80=A6=E2=80=A6 there does not seem to be any actionable idea for progre= ss. The two actionable cut-corner steps are: 1. Make the test suite separate e.g., if the lenghty and intensive test suite of GHC@8.4.4 fails, then it isn=E2=80=99t blocking for trying to build the rest. 2. Cut a bit the chain, as explained in [1] Well, these cut-the-corners are two overdues [2] and this report was a kind of reminder. :-) For sure, fine to keep it close and track the progress directly on Codeberg. Thanks for raising this up=E2=80=A6 :-D Cheers, simon 1: Re: Core-updates after the staging merge Simon Tournier Mon, 17 Apr 2023 14:19:43 +0200 id:87r0siem5c.fsf@gmail.com https://lists.gnu.org/archive/html/guix-devel/2023-04 https://yhetil.org/guix/87r0siem5c.fsf@gmail.com 2: Re: Core-updates after the staging merge Andreas Enge Mon, 17 Apr 2023 11:03:25 +0200 id:ZD0LXefP6X4TiYYF@jurong https://lists.gnu.org/archive/html/guix-devel/2023-04 https://yhetil.org/guix/ZD0LXefP6X4TiYYF@jurong From debbugs-submit-bounces@debbugs.gnu.org Mon Aug 18 04:06:34 2025 Received: (at control) by debbugs.gnu.org; 18 Aug 2025 08:06:35 +0000 Received: from localhost ([127.0.0.1]:49184 helo=debbugs.gnu.org) by debbugs.gnu.org with esmtp (Exim 4.84_2) (envelope-from ) id 1unut0-0000OH-Ly for submit@debbugs.gnu.org; Mon, 18 Aug 2025 04:06:34 -0400 Received: from mail-wm1-x32b.google.com ([2a00:1450:4864:20::32b]:58858) by debbugs.gnu.org with esmtps (TLS1.2:ECDHE_RSA_AES_128_GCM_SHA256:128) (Exim 4.84_2) (envelope-from ) id 1unusy-0000O0-KO for control@debbugs.gnu.org; Mon, 18 Aug 2025 04:06:33 -0400 Received: by mail-wm1-x32b.google.com with SMTP id 5b1f17b1804b1-45a1b05fe23so22145905e9.1 for ; Mon, 18 Aug 2025 01:06:32 -0700 (PDT) DKIM-Signature: v=1; a=rsa-sha256; c=relaxed/relaxed; d=gmail.com; s=20230601; t=1755504386; x=1756109186; darn=debbugs.gnu.org; h=subject:from:to:message-id:date:from:to:cc:subject:date:message-id :reply-to; bh=KouxKr+UOzoF3kiGp1c5i8GB8xoCIiRe/ALlMIiXOoE=; b=mURvzX+VkJBl8+Gax4VowhJHmHfUttTq62oN825XdbX2JzbI1IrVGZkdpbqIAWLN5z M5UfrOO07S+VfTAzlPj2ooMhgkVVBnYkF3qZv/UIXKDMZBsw1PTrqnXGDe1HwRLg9PWG OIdMNHX7ybiEmIL55iqvqJ3vcDjOOWt3z52t/QAgcnjxEjnhIiv6nTzfceFCFCmliJ8i XO9SNg+Q7Zq6LGj1h8rFuma33ciVrFOIvahUFnUewllVGj+9j9gJHMk75RUo8mTmXe3z Ljaq6JoskA+VJrPFMmu7kYdb+P2ab/VLUlhAYdgqsbmRjOJOZDrQMpbbkmf7N5ukBe0x tMOg== X-Google-DKIM-Signature: v=1; a=rsa-sha256; c=relaxed/relaxed; d=1e100.net; s=20230601; t=1755504386; x=1756109186; h=subject:from:to:message-id:date:x-gm-message-state:from:to:cc :subject:date:message-id:reply-to; bh=KouxKr+UOzoF3kiGp1c5i8GB8xoCIiRe/ALlMIiXOoE=; b=T1QwXG51YrjsTPRsPoMFciwzSAnlfcMr6TiSoF9F63e/mVqarU3UituzKoTQijSWot 39PX1415WY6+aniQ1zufbGGVhzdBHctyr+M0FPopvuuABeRs5JQbhVr4RAELv9jJdctx oq1L8rZxd0QSbKN58NRL6N9iCVamXdZuy1Dp3ZvhMHcIU/35mZwENEF0h24L4UpPIWq3 Hie9oWQFU5fXaQxLEKL+ZcD1VC2fDMjpTvyD/kJ0fXNaTcZ3kGXk9nigBYbkTLlvSntf DyR8EsF83AsvxX2RyAfAW/XM983q2Qfn6ZW9GEMhDOl3bG9gEwf7pixsuWxwuPhCxHzz uxUA== X-Gm-Message-State: AOJu0YyRNrNKuO4qbHLKD0I9jmynGquYowr3xwvT9SrTGE1fTnWZ8blp tZgPPqPWeERDRvsZLNPSRJvI0WCVp4xOBvSieXMYJcYmR4X3H7XAd/nrS7akPhej X-Gm-Gg: ASbGnctfLkchkEun7hvDMBTvA2SWpM9/5Kj1yj5lvGktKFMprQHjdHWSLPSjw1GrBH1 4uf/X5g8ZGU5ZWzVjWryoph6saknix1/ZJv4VBZiM7XPvulDeF/GtGiovB3DrNh0+XDXn9zeZ8D NqD8rHhAZT+YJjXEM0zscYrH+107XcGJJW0zHV+KpfZiuq69p93Mz4wOdMLmgCwwPQR39Ybn5Eg a14bYA4OD1BapBOOvov0ImiBFVY+EOVmmTjBbT+wCeEp7zJhinCr7L9iJQvS+TqXsOp7560CZHc Vz/MB7sN3sC8iVrMrG+MFTk+kdEa5x+/kbSUSvI5kZEpMgMMo+/asz5n8I8o10iKU1o3GliQihP adhi/HbMA29omdEhoMcQM X-Google-Smtp-Source: AGHT+IG8bK9THY70U437qid6ustaDKxO0Vosn4LRjU/Y0PFFU7wqMRivijqnaKw+hSZC/aehgUOLgQ== X-Received: by 2002:a05:600c:630e:b0:43c:f8fc:f697 with SMTP id 5b1f17b1804b1-45b3e827f65mr22662165e9.9.1755504386396; Mon, 18 Aug 2025 01:06:26 -0700 (PDT) Received: from lili ([2a01:e0a:59b:9120:b773:8ff0:ab21:d6bd]) by smtp.gmail.com with ESMTPSA id 5b1f17b1804b1-45a1c773e57sm169207505e9.23.2025.08.18.01.06.24 for (version=TLS1_3 cipher=TLS_AES_256_GCM_SHA384 bits=256/256); Mon, 18 Aug 2025 01:06:25 -0700 (PDT) Date: Mon, 18 Aug 2025 10:05:56 +0200 Message-Id: <87o6sdjbq3.fsf@gmail.com> To: control@debbugs.gnu.org From: Simon Tournier Subject: control message for bug #53162 X-Spam-Score: 0.0 (/) X-Debbugs-Envelope-To: control X-BeenThere: debbugs-submit@debbugs.gnu.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.18 Precedence: list List-Id: List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , Errors-To: debbugs-submit-bounces@debbugs.gnu.org Sender: "Debbugs-submit" X-Spam-Score: -1.0 (-) close 53162 quit
