The section "20.6.1 How display-buffer works" of the Emacs manual has an
example wich creates a malformed alist, whose first element is a string
instead of a list. This value is used to customize display-buffer-alist.

In other sections of the manual, like "20.6.2 Displaying non-editable
buffers.", the alist is correctly formed.

The attachment is a patch with the fix.
