I cannot reproduce the problem on my machine (Fedora 34) either.

Try running "env - /usr/bin/grep" instead of plain "grep". If this fixes 
the problem, then your environment is busted somehow. Perhaps your PATH 
is pointing to the wrong 'grep'.
