$ cat Makefile
a=12#34
b=56 #78
$ emacs -Q Makefile
gets the colors wrong. #34 should be in comment color too.
emacs-version "27.1"

"Well just add the space like you did with b=56 #78.
Now it looks good to you."

Yes, but that space then of course now becomes part of the value. Too
much of a price to pay.
