You are in Lisp Interaction mode, which has its own indentation rules. Try this in Fundamental mode, and you will see the behavior you expect, I think. IOW, I don't think there's a bug here. The default contents of the scratch buffer read: "This buffer is for text that is not saved ..." so any newcomer to emacs gets the indication that _text_ typed here will be treated as text (and yes lisp typed here will be treated as lisp), and people expect text paragraphs not to have their final line be out-dented *after* completion. Any newcomer to emacs will clearly consider this a bug. I also do consider it a bug. > To investigate this further, note that electric-indent-mode is ON That speaks to the choice of how to classify the bug, not whether it is a bug. Maybe you'll consider it a bug in that mode, or in auto-fill mode, or in lisp-interaction-mode, or in the setup of the scratch buffer, or in the relationship between those three modes, or in the default comment of that buffer, or in something else. I don't have a suggestion either way, only the observation that the behavior is unexpected, counter-intuitive, and annoying. =2D- hkp://keys.gnupg.net CA45 09B5 5351 7C11 A9D1 7286 0036 9E45 1595 8BC0 From debbugs-submit-bounces@debbugs.gnu.org Mon Jan 11 10:48:34 2021 Received: (at 45582) by debbugs.gnu.org; 11 Jan 2021 15:48:34 +0000 Received: from localhost ([127.0.0.1]:57921 helo=debbugs.gnu.org) by debbugs.gnu.org with esmtp (Exim 4.84_2) (envelope-from ) id 1kyzQo-0001gG-EF for submit@debbugs.gnu.org; Mon, 11 Jan 2021 10:48:34 -0500 Received: from quimby.gnus.org ([95.216.78.240]:54544) by debbugs.gnu.org with esmtp (Exim 4.84_2) (envelope-from ) id 1kyzQl-0001fz-2r for 45582@debbugs.gnu.org; Mon, 11 Jan 2021 10:48:32 -0500 DKIM-Signature: v=1; a=rsa-sha256; q=dns/txt; c=relaxed/relaxed; d=gnus.org; s=20200322; h=Content-Type:MIME-Version:Message-ID:In-Reply-To:Date: References:Subject:Cc:To:From:Sender:Reply-To:Content-Transfer-Encoding: Content-ID:Content-Description:Resent-Date:Resent-From:Resent-Sender: Resent-To:Resent-Cc:Resent-Message-ID:List-Id:List-Help:List-Unsubscribe: List-Subscribe:List-Post:List-Owner:List-Archive; bh=XRRN/fBSCiXMxq9KPDa/nFsafALLI73L/IeCFV/DbiQ=; b=drdk6q8uHutVWzmHnmn/kiRa2i sfrzIqP0l4zFefzsRJ/qs8/2yAD10kK7l3mHq9vzE7vy3/Yx4NofQ8wbGzZ7wfrEVaEfxhteCqYQU nCsxeDjhqTeyBnur3KX1eZ2Jw+3OAFLjRX7NprRMmoTB7j10IuW+nQbv/NhEyCKRA9Vs=; Received: from cm-84.212.202.86.getinternet.no ([84.212.202.86] helo=xo) by quimby.gnus.org with esmtpsa (TLS1.3:ECDHE_RSA_AES_256_GCM_SHA384:256) (Exim 4.92) (envelope-from ) id 1kyzQV-00006r-5n; Mon, 11 Jan 2021 16:48:24 +0100 From: Lars Ingebrigtsen To: Boruch Baum Subject: Re: bug#45582: 28: auto-fill final line of indented paragraph References: <20201231232325.chb374puao3t4rze@E15-2016.optimum.net> <83a6ttgmgo.fsf@gnu.org> <20210101122521.uzqz2o6nug6bow4y@E15-2016.optimum.net> X-Now-Playing: CZR's _Fabric Presents: Octo Octa & Eris Drew_: "Structure" Date: Mon, 11 Jan 2021 16:48:13 +0100 In-Reply-To: <20210101122521.uzqz2o6nug6bow4y@E15-2016.optimum.net> (Boruch Baum's message of "Fri, 1 Jan 2021 07:25:21 -0500") Message-ID: <87czybfpaa.fsf@gnus.org> User-Agent: Gnus/5.13 (Gnus v5.13) Emacs/28.0.50 (gnu/linux) MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain X-Spam-Report: Spam detection software, running on the system "quimby.gnus.org", has NOT identified this incoming email as spam. Any newcomer to emacs > will clearly consider this a bug. I also do consider it a bug. It says ;; This buffer is for text that is not saved, and for Lisp evaluation. so the user should be expecting this to be a non-normal (i.e., not a text-mode) buffer. So I agree with Eli -- this isn't a bug, and I'm closing this bug report. -- (domestic pets only, the antidote for overdose, milk.) bloggy blog: http://lars.ingebrigtsen.no From debbugs-submit-bounces@debbugs.gnu.org Mon Jan 11 10:48:36 2021 Received: (at control) by debbugs.gnu.org; 11 Jan 2021 15:48:36 +0000 Received: from localhost ([127.0.0.1]:57924 helo=debbugs.gnu.org) by debbugs.gnu.org with esmtp (Exim 4.84_2) (envelope-from ) id 1kyzQq-0001gU-Mf for submit@debbugs.gnu.org; Mon, 11 Jan 2021 10:48:36 -0500 Received: from quimby.gnus.org ([95.216.78.240]:54558) by debbugs.gnu.org with esmtp (Exim 4.84_2) (envelope-from ) id 1kyzQp-0001g4-Dq for control@debbugs.gnu.org; Mon, 11 Jan 2021 10:48:35 -0500 DKIM-Signature: v=1; a=rsa-sha256; q=dns/txt; c=relaxed/relaxed; d=gnus.org; s=20200322; h=Subject:From:To:Message-Id:Date:Sender:Reply-To:Cc: MIME-Version:Content-Type:Content-Transfer-Encoding:Content-ID: Content-Description:Resent-Date:Resent-From:Resent-Sender:Resent-To:Resent-Cc :Resent-Message-ID:In-Reply-To:References:List-Id:List-Help:List-Unsubscribe: List-Subscribe:List-Post:List-Owner:List-Archive; bh=/j1NhZcVuXPGcBVLx3S0imaAMKLXgxABhfs4jgpwECw=; b=SJxUb2cDs42hYBWFJtXhlK5osc rgFcgpaPNFs5mhc6rnsddFZs6SPbJp8e2I23wtxwzu6uvoYzGvwBM+flUgum67eay+ZbVKy9Pwntm M1P4UgkBYKrhqrCv9ZuJczA3LVO6ywnvBXjfRwlXWKAziJeJuqbcpBgRKLM15maChJIU=; Received: from cm-84.212.202.86.getinternet.no ([84.212.202.86] helo=xo) by quimby.gnus.org with esmtpsa (TLS1.3:ECDHE_RSA_AES_256_GCM_SHA384:256) (Exim 4.92) (envelope-from ) id 1kyzQh-000072-OJ for control@debbugs.gnu.org; Mon, 11 Jan 2021 16:48:29 +0100 Date: Mon, 11 Jan 2021 16:48:26 +0100 Message-Id: <87bldvfp9x.fsf@gnus.org> To: control@debbugs.gnu.org From: Lars Ingebrigtsen Subject: control message for bug #45582 X-Spam-Report: Spam detection software, running on the system "quimby.gnus.org", has NOT identified this incoming email as spam.
