When I opened one particular message on the group today Emacs froze up completely. top reported 100% CPU usage from it. This went on for a couple minutes until I hit C-g. The message that triggered this has Message-id and subject "Re: [Wireshark-dev] [Outreachy] Internship blog 2020" I dug around a bit and found out the problem comes from the function gnus-cite-parse in the following line: (when (and (< guess-limit (+ begin gnus-cite-max-prefix)) (looking-at gnus-supercite-regexp)) The call to looking-at seems to be the problem. gnus-supercite-regexp is: "^\\(\\([ ]*\\(\\w\\|[_.]\\)+>+\\|[ ]*[>|]\\)+\\)? *>>>>> +\"\\([^\"\n]+\\)\" +==" This call works fine for most lines but at the end there is the line: "> ___________________________________________________________________________" I wrapped this in quotes because it freezes up this buffer as well. Is this a problem with my setup only or do other people see it as well? What can I do to fix it? Thanks. Our systems look pretty similar, but I'm on Debian, and the reported is on Arch. -- (domestic pets only, the antidote for overdose, milk.) bloggy blog: http://lars.ingebrigtsen.no From debbugs-submit-bounces@debbugs.gnu.org Mon Jan 18 22:14:53 2021 Received: (at 45041) by debbugs.gnu.org; 19 Jan 2021 03:14:54 +0000 Received: from localhost ([127.0.0.1]:48953 helo=debbugs.gnu.org) by debbugs.gnu.org with esmtp (Exim 4.84_2) (envelope-from ) id 1l1hTp-000324-Kl for submit@debbugs.gnu.org; Mon, 18 Jan 2021 22:14:53 -0500 Received: from quimby.gnus.org ([95.216.78.240]:53422) by debbugs.gnu.org with esmtp (Exim 4.84_2) (envelope-from ) id 1l1hTn-00031p-5k for 45041@debbugs.gnu.org; Mon, 18 Jan 2021 22:14:51 -0500 DKIM-Signature: v=1; a=rsa-sha256; q=dns/txt; c=relaxed/relaxed; d=gnus.org; s=20200322; h=Content-Type:MIME-Version:Message-ID:In-Reply-To:Date: References:Subject:Cc:To:From:Sender:Reply-To:Content-Transfer-Encoding: Content-ID:Content-Description:Resent-Date:Resent-From:Resent-Sender: Resent-To:Resent-Cc:Resent-Message-ID:List-Id:List-Help:List-Unsubscribe: List-Subscribe:List-Post:List-Owner:List-Archive; bh=HJrbjHmn+DC8QUWrEGRr5caR9OqNMHGTqhCOQqUov4w=; b=EywVMehtkcFq6RwQmB3W0FheNu OXPTpMqScFI++Nnl2BcSXWyHvgNQJRDMqpWbgw4D0uD1uGXE4jU1YENgmnWT3zGANSjB2TFEJqFIv OeBpw9OJsjeNlybKtfwSKvfg5tqbFDbOOjRp1FsSrSz2XMaaNFMfENlboHb3moI1t3Wo=; Received: from cm-84.212.202.86.getinternet.no ([84.212.202.86] helo=xo) by quimby.gnus.org with esmtpsa (TLS1.3:ECDHE_RSA_AES_256_GCM_SHA384:256) (Exim 4.92) (envelope-from ) id 1l1hTb-0002dj-DO; Tue, 19 Jan 2021 04:14:44 +0100 From: Lars Ingebrigtsen To: Pratyush Yadav Subject: Re: bug#45041: 27.1; Emacs hangs if the cited message contains some specific text References: <878sa72g0o.fsf@gnus.org> <87y2gzea8f.fsf@gnus.org> <20210114170507.dgzerhkkdauuz7km@yadavpratyush.com> <87czy2tdyw.fsf@gnus.org> <20210118191342.deztrbs5tyoo64b5@yadavpratyush.com> Face: iVBORw0KGgoAAAANSUhEUgAAADAAAAAwBAMAAAClLOS0AAAABGdBTUEAALGPC/xhBQAAACBj SFJNAAB6JgAAgIQAAPoAAACA6AAAdTAAAOpgAAA6mAAAF3CculE8AAAAGFBMVEUqKpIyLFpKI3Uf FiUGBAjOcZ8uVbz////Z7JBtAAAAAWJLR0QHFmGI6wAAAAd0SU1FB+UBEwMKFvnsEtIAAAGKSURB VDjLtdTBcoJADABQROUMAp7rIp4Li57V3XIuaHrGMpP//4QGNsBipzOd6TTAJY+Q7II6zl9i4X9L BV0qkTJ7urPQWvkLqZX0HVeIlwEoTyG1BpmJLliWmuECN9mDMLAyQHWQqI1VEg2g4kDlFhQDvMXA IOZwzH6ASwDcYwY0bl7xVDNQ1F0WVwt4qm5epbU1lVlHxn6dYClloTQAF07wGVDIuOJe+bglTt+a ehtRE/CtQ2xGWM3hwi1cWIp0H1rCsAYXIAELcmeC3IaLgbReA6QgqioGnssCjrsp8Sc4VnEdhgOc e4D3FOrjPb0rgL3dpIeU4HgD3kjTBGqg8wZ7mnnYAwM0ExlEdOnAwLbp11GndIgiP3wopGzZGui+ ViF2XQYjhpMzgkhkUWKLyo+2j8IsRIh+cWJfYoMnutChswdTQo9CfM3Qa7yFDSIqH4jKw1PrzSrE rmwRtziBO8ihPSFmHSyeoetC/blifJbXBM22ac4YMLjT9xrar9CU2L/gX/8N/Fd8Acc3qpqC/Xro AAAAJXRFWHRkYXRlOmNyZWF0ZQAyMDIxLTAxLTE5VDAzOjEwOjIyKzAwOjAwP3XirQAAACV0RVh0 ZGF0ZTptb2RpZnkAMjAyMS0wMS0xOVQwMzoxMDoyMiswMDowME4oWhEAAAAASUVORK5CYII= X-Now-Playing: Ultra =?utf-8?Q?Nat=C3=A9's?= _Blue Notes in the Basement_: "Love Hungover" Date: Tue, 19 Jan 2021 04:14:38 +0100 In-Reply-To: <20210118191342.deztrbs5tyoo64b5@yadavpratyush.com> (Pratyush Yadav's message of "Tue, 19 Jan 2021 00:43:42 +0530") Message-ID: <87h7ndsjmp.fsf@gnus.org> User-Agent: Gnus/5.13 (Gnus v5.13) Emacs/28.0.50 (gnu/linux) MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain X-Spam-Report: Spam detection software, running on the system "quimby.gnus.org", has NOT identified this incoming email as spam.
