text along left side of table

----->8----->8----- I'm not terribly concerned about the exact formatting of the table, but I do expect to see the "row 1" and "row 2" text somewhere. Instead, all I see is -----8<-----8<----- text along left side of table=20=20 ----->8----->8----- The test case is abstracted from some HTML-only notification emails that I have started receiving. With the "row 1" and "row 2" text missing, the emails are close to useless. I can't tell if I should expect shr to handle rowspan correctly. (Is there somewhere that documents known restrictions on the HTML that shr can handle?) If I shouldn't expect rowspan to be handled correctly (I can imagine it's hard to get right), please treat this as a wishlist (feature request) report. I have verified that the problem also occurs with 26.1 and 26.3, and I've reproduced it with "emacs -Q". Instead, all > I see is > > -----8<-----8<----- > text along left side of table > ----->8----->8----- Yeah, I can reproduce this, and I see what the problem is. The way shr computes rowspan layouts is by adding "dummy" TD elements in the rows that the spanning element should cover, but this messes up the calculation of how many columns there really are. So it's basically a off-by-one error, but I'm not quite sure what the best way to fix this is... -- (domestic pets only, the antidote for overdose, milk.) bloggy blog: http://lars.ingebrigtsen.no From debbugs-submit-bounces@debbugs.gnu.org Thu Jul 16 21:15:18 2020 Received: (at 42194) by debbugs.gnu.org; 17 Jul 2020 01:15:18 +0000 Received: from localhost ([127.0.0.1]:56288 helo=debbugs.gnu.org) by debbugs.gnu.org with esmtp (Exim 4.84_2) (envelope-from ) id 1jwEy6-0007oW-C3 for submit@debbugs.gnu.org; Thu, 16 Jul 2020 21:15:18 -0400 Received: from quimby.gnus.org ([95.216.78.240]:35578) by debbugs.gnu.org with esmtp (Exim 4.84_2) (envelope-from ) id 1jwEy2-0007oE-Vj for 42194@debbugs.gnu.org; Thu, 16 Jul 2020 21:15:17 -0400 DKIM-Signature: v=1; a=rsa-sha256; q=dns/txt; c=relaxed/relaxed; d=gnus.org; s=20200322; h=Content-Type:MIME-Version:Message-ID:In-Reply-To:Date: References:Subject:Cc:To:From:Sender:Reply-To:Content-Transfer-Encoding: Content-ID:Content-Description:Resent-Date:Resent-From:Resent-Sender: Resent-To:Resent-Cc:Resent-Message-ID:List-Id:List-Help:List-Unsubscribe: List-Subscribe:List-Post:List-Owner:List-Archive; bh=Yg5djMyvzLAk96JruKCQ4qkrdpvInAA6RpMxVNCJRng=; b=mVL9WBD/gVkUHZRuk0Ir7OkIFo 8u6Z+7PCcnpYRV5z16DDNz8op9+ujxzXdoRoVCZj53tcTXrSiNvefe/3oN8PEmXb2WWfjYkWNdjQr u/5bbTGfGa8DlIEW+a5l6niLhx4H0K7JWCJ8DzqSZBSbKWEVfTlfMCrJdQ/M/ahKupTc=; Received: from cm-84.212.202.86.getinternet.no ([84.212.202.86] helo=xo) by quimby.gnus.org with esmtpsa (TLS1.3:ECDHE_RSA_AES_256_GCM_SHA384:256) (Exim 4.92) (envelope-from ) id 1jwExo-0004z2-Le; Fri, 17 Jul 2020 03:15:08 +0200 From: Lars Ingebrigtsen To: Mike Kupfer Subject: Re: bug#42194: 27.0.91; shr and rowspan References: <21201.1593888945@alto> <87v9inouxv.fsf@gnus.org> Date: Fri, 17 Jul 2020 03:14:59 +0200 In-Reply-To: <87v9inouxv.fsf@gnus.org> (Lars Ingebrigtsen's message of "Fri, 17 Jul 2020 02:18:36 +0200") Message-ID: <87mu3zosbw.fsf@gnus.org> User-Agent: Gnus/5.13 (Gnus v5.13) Emacs/28.0.50 (gnu/linux) MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain X-Spam-Report: Spam detection software, running on the system "quimby.gnus.org", has NOT identified this incoming email as spam. Eli, I think the fix should be safe for Emacs 27.1, too, but I've been out of the loop and I'm not sure what the status is at the moment. This isn't exactly a critical bug -- rowspan isn't used that much these days, and it's a very old bug. On the other hand, I think it's a pretty safe fix to add, so should I cherry-pick it for Emacs 27.1? -- (domestic pets only, the antidote for overdose, milk.) bloggy blog: http://lars.ingebrigtsen.no From debbugs-submit-bounces@debbugs.gnu.org Thu Jul 16 23:55:53 2020 Received: (at 42194) by debbugs.gnu.org; 17 Jul 2020 03:55:54 +0000 Received: from localhost ([127.0.0.1]:56395 helo=debbugs.gnu.org) by debbugs.gnu.org with esmtp (Exim 4.84_2) (envelope-from ) id 1jwHTV-0007Tg-Mi for submit@debbugs.gnu.org; Thu, 16 Jul 2020 23:55:53 -0400 Received: from eggs.gnu.org ([209.51.188.92]:48988) by debbugs.gnu.org with esmtp (Exim 4.84_2) (envelope-from ) id 1jwHTR-0007TL-Cj for 42194@debbugs.gnu.org; Thu, 16 Jul 2020 23:55:51 -0400 Received: from fencepost.gnu.org ([2001:470:142:3::e]:34508) by eggs.gnu.org with esmtp (Exim 4.90_1) (envelope-from ) id 1jwHTL-0002Sj-Ic; Thu, 16 Jul 2020 23:55:43 -0400 Received: from [176.228.60.248] (port=4690 helo=home-c4e4a596f7) by fencepost.gnu.org with esmtpsa (TLS1.2:RSA_AES_256_CBC_SHA1:256) (Exim 4.82) (envelope-from ) id 1jwHTJ-00009l-Q2; Thu, 16 Jul 2020 23:55:43 -0400 Date: Fri, 17 Jul 2020 06:55:28 +0300 Message-Id: <83lfjikd73.fsf@gnu.org> From: Eli Zaretskii To: Lars Ingebrigtsen In-Reply-To: <87mu3zosbw.fsf@gnus.org> (message from Lars Ingebrigtsen on Fri, 17 Jul 2020 03:14:59 +0200) Subject: Re: bug#42194: 27.0.91; shr and rowspan References: <21201.1593888945@alto> <87v9inouxv.fsf@gnus.org> <87mu3zosbw.fsf@gnus.org> X-Spam-Score: -2.3 (--) X-Debbugs-Envelope-To: 42194 Cc: 42194@debbugs.gnu.org, mkupfer@alum.berkeley.edu X-BeenThere: debbugs-submit@debbugs.gnu.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.18 Precedence: list List-Id: List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , Errors-To: debbugs-submit-bounces@debbugs.gnu.org Sender: "Debbugs-submit" X-Spam-Score: -3.3 (---) > From: Lars Ingebrigtsen > Cc: 42194@debbugs.gnu.org, eli Eli Zaretskii > Date: Fri, 17 Jul 2020 03:14:59 +0200 > > Eli, I think the fix should be safe for Emacs 27.1, too, but I've been > out of the loop and I'm not sure what the status is at the moment. This is certainly not a critical bug (or a regression), so I'm not backporting the fix, then. -- (domestic pets only, the antidote for overdose, milk.) bloggy blog: http://lars.ingebrigtsen.no From debbugs-submit-bounces@debbugs.gnu.org Fri Jul 17 09:01:15 2020 Received: (at control) by debbugs.gnu.org; 17 Jul 2020 13:01:15 +0000 Received: from localhost ([127.0.0.1]:56863 helo=debbugs.gnu.org) by debbugs.gnu.org with esmtp (Exim 4.84_2) (envelope-from ) id 1jwPzG-0007Yl-RB for submit@debbugs.gnu.org; Fri, 17 Jul 2020 09:01:15 -0400 Received: from quimby.gnus.org ([95.216.78.240]:43080) by debbugs.gnu.org with esmtp (Exim 4.84_2) (envelope-from ) id 1jwPzE-0007S6-NU for control@debbugs.gnu.org; Fri, 17 Jul 2020 09:01:13 -0400 DKIM-Signature: v=1; a=rsa-sha256; q=dns/txt; c=relaxed/relaxed; d=gnus.org; s=20200322; h=Subject:From:To:Message-Id:Date:Sender:Reply-To:Cc: MIME-Version:Content-Type:Content-Transfer-Encoding:Content-ID: Content-Description:Resent-Date:Resent-From:Resent-Sender:Resent-To:Resent-Cc :Resent-Message-ID:In-Reply-To:References:List-Id:List-Help:List-Unsubscribe: List-Subscribe:List-Post:List-Owner:List-Archive; bh=1aHrmfHq+9dXQY6tPr6eRPtyadmL14ZWq9ud3ZpkHs4=; b=cAdWJqF0lulXi7fySYzZ96ZjoM 0eVK4zoNEfRrF9FHgJctvhxYJZBgG2qQD3ehuyw/m8uVG4ust/mq/uc6KjiDIuARx7J+J4K1uU/77 hjoll8gyo6Co5cDrTAzq3V4sXMhWFXZVap4VtglftdMDYU0i512MXh45P8bOBUHebdEU=; Received: from cm-84.212.202.86.getinternet.no ([84.212.202.86] helo=xo) by quimby.gnus.org with esmtpsa (TLS1.3:ECDHE_RSA_AES_256_GCM_SHA384:256) (Exim 4.92) (envelope-from ) id 1jwPz6-00044y-Rp for control@debbugs.gnu.org; Fri, 17 Jul 2020 15:01:07 +0200 Date: Fri, 17 Jul 2020 15:01:03 +0200 Message-Id: <87r1tanvn4.fsf@gnus.org> To: control@debbugs.gnu.org From: Lars Ingebrigtsen Subject: control message for bug #42194 X-Spam-Report: Spam detection software, running on the system "quimby.gnus.org", has NOT identified this incoming email as spam.
