I went ahead and pushed as 381291f5ff4480afbb197bf5e5a2272cfe54a386,
together with a test derived from the one I posted earlier.

With this and Andrew’s finalizer pipe patch, we should be good!

This will be in the upcoming Guile 3.0.7 release.
