Message #5 received at submit <at> emacsbugs.donarmstrong.com (full text, mbox):
Please write in English if possible, because the Emacs maintainers
usually do not have translators to read other languages for them.
Your bug report will be posted to the emacs-pretest-bug <at> gnu.org mailing list.
Please describe exactly what actions triggered the bug
and the precise symptoms of the bug:
Building latest emacs from CVS on Ubuntu 9.04, it appears that configure
is unable to locate the dbus libraries. config.log reports
Running on Ubuntu 9.04, I'm having trouble building emacs from CVS with
dbus support. config.log reports:
configure:12289: checking for dbus-1 >= 1.0
configure:12309: result: no
and subsequent calls to make fail to compile dbusbind.c, causing
invocation of dbus-call-method to fail with a void-function error.
dbus-1 installed as per default ubuntu setup.
If Emacs crashed, and you have the Emacs process in the gdb debugger,
please include the output from the following gdb commands:
`bt full' and `xbacktrace'.
If you would like to further debug the crash, please read the file
/usr/local/share/emacs/23.1.50/etc/DEBUG for instructions.

I don't know what that means, but Ubuntu users might.
At a guess, you need to also install the dbus development package(s),
which may be called "libdbus-1-dev".
Failing that, examine the config.log output to see exactly what the
problem is.

Yes, that's the name.
More generally speaking: there is a package emacs23 in Debian sid. Shall
jump into Ubuntu karmic soon (I guess). With this, you can install
# sudo apt-get build-dep emacs23
Manually, you can check all dependencies at
<http://packages.debian.org/source/sid/emacs23>.

Thanks - you were spot on: installing libdbus-1-dev solved the problem.
So as usual this was a user problem.
Might be nice if missing libraries could be reported more clearly as
they are for the various graphics packages: png, tiff etc, to hold the
user's hand still more.
Thanks again
Giles
