i get a similar error when running "make bootstrap" on ubuntu 9.04:

> `/bin/pwd`/temacs --batch --load loadup bootstrap
> Segmentation fault
> make[1]: *** [bootstrap-emacs] Error 139

this has only started happening in the last couple of days.
