I suppose you refer to configurations like ------- | 1 | 2 | |-------| | 3 | ------- and you do C-x 0 in 1 ending up in 3 or in 3 ending up in 2. It happens because `delete-window' selects the previous window of the selected one which is usually also the one that gets enlarged. OK the problem is with the following assignment in delete_window: /* Otherwise, try another window for SWINDOW. */ swindow = Fnext_window (swindow, Qlambda, Qnil); This will fail to pick a useful window when deleting the bottom-right window of a frame. I use /* Otherwise, try another window for SWINDOW. */ swindow = Fprevious_window (swindow, Qlambda, Qnil); which is better for me but fails miserably when deleting the top-left window of a frame. So maybe we need something like the attached patch. Could you try it? martin --------------050601020206000505070802 Content-Type: text/plain; name="window.c.diff" Content-Transfer-Encoding: base64 Content-Disposition: inline; filename="window.c.diff" KioqIHdpbmRvdy5jLn4xLjYzOS5+CTIwMDktMDctMDQgMTc6MDk6MzguMjY1NjI1MDAwICsw MjAwDQotLS0gd2luZG93LmMJMjAwOS0wOC0wMSAxNTowNjo0OC45MDYyNTAwMDAgKzAyMDAN CioqKioqKioqKioqKioqKg0KKioqIDE1OTYsMTYwMiAqKioqDQogIAlpZiAoIUVRICh3aW5k b3csIHB3aW5kb3cpKQ0KICAJICBicmVhazsNCiAgCS8qIE90aGVyd2lzZSwgdHJ5IGFub3Ro ZXIgd2luZG93IGZvciBTV0lORE9XLiAgKi8NCiEgCXN3aW5kb3cgPSBGbmV4dF93aW5kb3cg KHN3aW5kb3csIFFsYW1iZGEsIFFuaWwpOw0KICANCiAgCS8qIElmIHdlIGdldCBiYWNrIHRv IHRoZSBmcmFtZSdzIHNlbGVjdGVkIHdpbmRvdywNCiAgCSAgIGl0IG1lYW5zIHRoZXJlIHdh cyBubyBhY2NlcHRhYmxlIGFsdGVybmF0aXZlLA0KLS0tIDE1OTYsMTYwNSAtLS0tDQogIAlp ZiAoIUVRICh3aW5kb3csIHB3aW5kb3cpKQ0KICAJICBicmVhazsNCiAgCS8qIE90aGVyd2lz ZSwgdHJ5IGFub3RoZXIgd2luZG93IGZvciBTV0lORE9XLiAgKi8NCiEgCWlmIChOSUxQIChY V0lORE9XIChzd2luZG93KS0+cHJldikpDQohIAkgIHN3aW5kb3cgPSBGbmV4dF93aW5kb3cg KHN3aW5kb3csIFFsYW1iZGEsIFFuaWwpOw0KISAJZWxzZQ0KISAJICBzd2luZG93ID0gRnBy ZXZpb3VzX3dpbmRvdyAoc3dpbmRvdywgUWxhbWJkYSwgUW5pbCk7DQogIA0KICAJLyogSWYg d2UgZ2V0IGJhY2sgdG8gdGhlIGZyYW1lJ3Mgc2VsZWN0ZWQgd2luZG93LA0KICAJICAgaXQg bWVhbnMgdGhlcmUgd2FzIG5vIGFjY2VwdGFibGUgYWx0ZXJuYXRpdmUsDQo= --------------050601020206000505070802-- From debbugs-submit-bounces@debbugs.gnu.org Mon Sep 05 04:42:42 2011 Received: (at 3949-done) by debbugs.gnu.org; 5 Sep 2011 08:42:42 +0000 Received: from localhost ([127.0.0.1] helo=debbugs.gnu.org) by debbugs.gnu.org with esmtp (Exim 4.69) (envelope-from ) id 1R0UlO-0005sL-C4 for submit@debbugs.gnu.org; Mon, 05 Sep 2011 04:42:42 -0400 Received: from mailout-de.gmx.net ([213.165.64.22]) by debbugs.gnu.org with smtp (Exim 4.69) (envelope-from ) id 1R0UlM-0005sD-Ho for 3949-done@debbugs.gnu.org; Mon, 05 Sep 2011 04:42:41 -0400 Received: (qmail invoked by alias); 05 Sep 2011 08:38:58 -0000 Received: from 62-47-37-192.adsl.highway.telekom.at (EHLO [62.47.37.192]) [62.47.37.192] by mail.gmx.net (mp034) with SMTP; 05 Sep 2011 10:38:58 +0200 X-Authenticated: #14592706 X-Provags-ID: V01U2FsdGVkX18DC4RlaSQDmxJzb8iRXB7WeHs4M90cfayWcm8t9I F2aK8iB0DE0LZ3 Message-ID: <4E648AA0.7030807@gmx.at> Date: Mon, 05 Sep 2011 10:38:56 +0200 From: martin rudalics User-Agent: Thunderbird 2.0.0.21 (Windows/20090302) MIME-Version: 1.0 To: 3949-done@debbugs.gnu.org Subject: Re: bug#3949: 23.1.50; C-x 0 should go to a sister window if possible References: In-Reply-To: Content-Type: text/plain; charset=UTF-8; format=flowed Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit X-Y-GMX-Trusted: 0 X-Spam-Score: -2.5 (--) X-Debbugs-Envelope-To: 3949-done X-BeenThere: debbugs-submit@debbugs.gnu.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.11 Precedence: list List-Id: List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , Sender: debbugs-submit-bounces@debbugs.gnu.org Errors-To: debbugs-submit-bounces@debbugs.gnu.org X-Spam-Score: -2.5 (--) > I can't think of any situation where I do not want that.
