On master, 5a947e118fb72b8fb1fd0c8d0b783fc7cde0c461: --8<---------------cut here---------------start------------->8--- $ guix repl > (use-modules (gnu packages gnupg)) While compiling expression: error: guile-email: unbound variable. --8<---------------cut here---------------end--------------->8--- Loading up the `(gnu packages mail)' module first seems to work around the compilation error. My best guess is that this has something to do with a circular reference between guile modules, but I am not certain on how to easily debug (and fix) this. - Jelle From unknown Mon Jun 23 07:50:59 2025 X-Loop: help-debbugs@gnu.org Subject: bug#38715: Issue with guile-email: unbound variable Resent-From: Tobias Geerinckx-Rice Original-Sender: "Debbugs-submit" Resent-CC: bug-guix@gnu.org Resent-Date: Mon, 23 Dec 2019 05:57:01 +0000 Resent-Message-ID: Resent-Sender: help-debbugs@gnu.org X-GNU-PR-Message: followup 38715 X-GNU-PR-Package: guix X-GNU-PR-Keywords: To: 38715@debbugs.gnu.org Cc: Jelle Licht Received: via spool by 38715-submit@debbugs.gnu.org id=B38715.15770805734402 (code B ref 38715); Mon, 23 Dec 2019 05:57:01 +0000 Received: (at 38715) by debbugs.gnu.org; 23 Dec 2019 05:56:13 +0000 Received: from localhost ([127.0.0.1]:50481 helo=debbugs.gnu.org) by debbugs.gnu.org with esmtp (Exim 4.84_2) (envelope-from ) id 1ijGhR-00018w-Gk for submit@debbugs.gnu.org; Mon, 23 Dec 2019 00:56:13 -0500 Received: from tobias.gr ([80.241.217.52]:32916) by debbugs.gnu.org with esmtp (Exim 4.84_2) (envelope-from ) id 1ijGhP-00018m-A2 for 38715@debbugs.gnu.org; Mon, 23 Dec 2019 00:56:12 -0500 Received: by tobias.gr (OpenSMTPD) with ESMTP id f9c65570; Mon, 23 Dec 2019 05:56:07 +0000 (UTC) DKIM-Signature: v=1; a=rsa-sha256; c=relaxed; d=tobias.gr; h=from:to:cc :subject:references:in-reply-to:date:message-id:mime-version :content-type; s=2018; i=me@tobias.gr; bh=7wlXm8DVTayj3HzvF3Rq6o NSXm5FXR2wGO2vnjNjPqM=; b=d/dNHZotqysE1YNHCEhJLcYV046XhiCPtMNoEU YWGJMQ0pWIBjNhQq+ZZqalA0Q/mB8APo8mxVEtjF1IRX4tUJS/32e/kor2VKdDkA dpvQhx00FQW5ciL5IaO86UuzUgxHZbdxcF1yZkXyccU5KSpfa+06volcI0kbE5MH UtgVCpPbc7ceh4XQ6khGC5xRJBHNHclq8gLHr6n8/nIq1ljge0NGigqQFfx/TNoZ +5lXAEW1wHP5n8G3zA3vubcKjqpNS98uNwxUuJP67rAcBhIh/VWx9JJamlhfDB40 KQkoxv9AAqy6kQRkqwVIf/Iyn7II+9tkcgBKsu7FBNaQbejQ== Received: by submission.tobias.gr (OpenSMTPD) with ESMTPSA id 4f03946b (TLSv1.3:TLS_AES_256_GCM_SHA384:256:NO); Mon, 23 Dec 2019 05:56:04 +0000 (UTC) From: Tobias Geerinckx-Rice References: <87eewvpw2h.fsf@jlicht.xyz> In-reply-to: <87eewvpw2h.fsf@jlicht.xyz> Date: Mon, 23 Dec 2019 06:56:03 +0100 Message-ID: <878sn3lh58.fsf@nckx> MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: multipart/signed; boundary="=-=-="; micalg=pgp-sha512; protocol="application/pgp-signature" X-Spam-Score: -2.3 (--) X-BeenThere: debbugs-submit@debbugs.gnu.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.18 Precedence: list List-Id: List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , Errors-To: debbugs-submit-bounces@debbugs.gnu.org Sender: "Debbugs-submit" X-Spam-Score: -3.3 (---) --=-=-= Content-Type: text/plain; charset=utf-8; format=flowed Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable Jelle, Jelle Licht =E5=86=99=E9=81=93=EF=BC=9A > Hey guix, > > Pretty recently, it seems something weird is happening when=20 > playing with > guix on the REPL. > > On master, 5a947e118fb72b8fb1fd0c8d0b783fc7cde0c461: > > --8<---------------cut=20 > here---------------start------------->8--- > $ guix repl >> (use-modules (gnu packages gnupg)) > While compiling expression: > error: guile-email: unbound variable. > --8<---------------cut=20 > here---------------end--------------->8--- Ah! I do not think it was that commit, as I found the offending commit: c7b2b539802eaa3f969e212c98eb671a1a75e9f3 This is the commit that adds mumimu to gnu/packages/mail.scm, as well as to the inputs of mumi. Reverting this commit (at least) solves the issue I had in the first mail. Could it be that the reference to guile-email in the version field of mumimu created this issue? --8<---------------cut here---------------start------------->8--- (version (git-version (package-version guile-email) revision commit)) --8<---------------cut here---------------end--------------->8--- - Jelle From unknown Mon Jun 23 07:50:59 2025 X-Loop: help-debbugs@gnu.org Subject: bug#38715: Issue with guile-email: unbound variable Resent-From: Christopher Baines Original-Sender: "Debbugs-submit" Resent-CC: bug-guix@gnu.org Resent-Date: Thu, 26 Dec 2019 10:42:02 +0000 Resent-Message-ID: Resent-Sender: help-debbugs@gnu.org X-GNU-PR-Message: followup 38715 X-GNU-PR-Package: guix X-GNU-PR-Keywords: To: 38715@debbugs.gnu.org Cc: Arun Isaac , jlicht@fsfe.org, Ludovic =?UTF-8?Q?Court=C3=A8s?= Received: via spool by 38715-submit@debbugs.gnu.org id=B38715.15773568728978 (code B ref 38715); Thu, 26 Dec 2019 10:42:02 +0000 Received: (at 38715) by debbugs.gnu.org; 26 Dec 2019 10:41:12 +0000 Received: from localhost ([127.0.0.1]:54952 helo=debbugs.gnu.org) by debbugs.gnu.org with esmtp (Exim 4.84_2) (envelope-from ) id 1ikQZs-0002Kk-4n for submit@debbugs.gnu.org; Thu, 26 Dec 2019 05:41:12 -0500 Received: from mira.cbaines.net ([212.71.252.8]:45280) by debbugs.gnu.org with esmtp (Exim 4.84_2) (envelope-from ) id 1ikQZp-0002Kb-Jp for 38715@debbugs.gnu.org; Thu, 26 Dec 2019 05:41:10 -0500 Received: from localhost (140.126.9.51.dyn.plus.net [51.9.126.140]) by mira.cbaines.net (Postfix) with ESMTPSA id 9179917928; Thu, 26 Dec 2019 10:41:08 +0000 (GMT) Received: from phact (localhost [127.0.0.1]) by localhost (OpenSMTPD) with ESMTP id 131e7039; Thu, 26 Dec 2019 10:41:08 +0000 (UTC) References: <87eewvpw2h.fsf@jlicht.xyz> <87a77jp2yj.fsf@jlicht.xyz> User-agent: mu4e 1.2.0; emacs 26.3 From: Christopher Baines In-reply-to: <87a77jp2yj.fsf@jlicht.xyz> Date: Thu, 26 Dec 2019 10:41:05 +0000 Message-ID: <874kxns726.fsf@cbaines.net> MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: multipart/signed; boundary="=-=-="; micalg=pgp-sha512; protocol="application/pgp-signature" X-Spam-Score: -0.0 (/) X-BeenThere: debbugs-submit@debbugs.gnu.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.18 Precedence: list List-Id: List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , Errors-To: debbugs-submit-bounces@debbugs.gnu.org Sender: "Debbugs-submit" X-Spam-Score: -1.0 (-) --=-=-= Content-Type: text/plain Jelle Licht writes: > Arun Isaac writes: > >>> My best guess is that this has something to do with a circular >>> reference between guile modules, but I am not certain on how to easily >>> debug (and fix) this. >> >> I updated the guile-email package two days ago. It looks to me sort of like a copy/paste error, I'm not sure why this variant of mu would take the version of the guile-email package. Anyway, to work around this issue I've pushed [1], which just replaces the reference with the current value. 1: https://git.savannah.gnu.org/cgit/guix.git/commit/?id=03460d2bd327815535801e3780c224f91af9b445 --=-=-= Content-Type: application/pgp-signature; name="signature.asc" -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- iQKTBAEBCgB9FiEEPonu50WOcg2XVOCyXiijOwuE9XcFAl4EjkFfFIAAAAAALgAo aXNzdWVyLWZwckBub3RhdGlvbnMub3BlbnBncC5maWZ0aGhvcnNlbWFuLm5ldDNF ODlFRUU3NDU4RTcyMEQ5NzU0RTBCMjVFMjhBMzNCMEI4NEY1NzcACgkQXiijOwuE 9XdqcBAAlrN3xus+bCt0lfDpcY6lw4cSy9TZqotj4aB5t685Sij5K3bF/m56lG8n yghesCOhKr1X50V8DLNZZXZFQfZ4JMC4KyhpwBt8iWq5ai6+0Pi4TAAq7l1KN/RZ cHX5Oq8jSA4SJh9WSJUpUf7/ApXq6gGXj5xZCcMGPJjfzRfQi2zFtIVxy/ZhL+pK JWWU63wbs/LoU2/JCOB4UyziuarMoqoQLTLuZ0mzjCmx7OpiGJyqMi8YRPTWShcq wIEAaQRrYvlAQYoSm8FY01cO3McH78K2D12nZ4nt2lV3Po1gdNJVcrPNOrzsz8bY +/58dK2zeU8RrEzMb9K1PMoWJR/ERpsT2mIPUyIKEhjurf+UXHadGF08ZZ3FsJBI ziyF93BdhdGs/CQAHwhYPESXmTaaF47CiaFzJit39e4YFXI69Z0kVtimZUZf9GwF 3T0g1fbu4pzxB0TMLDPeD4QLKz9nsBrn+947nFskRQjLo3beBjP19oMAtxBEqeXg uKwokBGBtkT2za1qj7M3qLp5R8izwh+mOg8026QJHcBo/ShhYACOp7GF1JUOGPj+ 9Jz3lsdkBPLnl83dplt3215zbFFTIKP1yEQyFLSAfMMdIQjdWcaAlxnVEM43grq0 42HKhsd7QZB+BSL5/PnvX1TElvpTxtm9Kgepj3tsoR/UfNRT0Sk= =VzUQ -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- --=-=-=-- From unknown Mon Jun 23 07:50:59 2025 X-Loop: help-debbugs@gnu.org Subject: bug#38715: Issue with guile-email: unbound variable Resent-From: Ludovic =?UTF-8?Q?Court=C3=A8s?= Original-Sender: "Debbugs-submit" Resent-CC: bug-guix@gnu.org Resent-Date: Thu, 26 Dec 2019 18:19:02 +0000 Resent-Message-ID: Resent-Sender: help-debbugs@gnu.org X-GNU-PR-Message: followup 38715 X-GNU-PR-Package: guix X-GNU-PR-Keywords: To: Christopher Baines Cc: Arun Isaac , jlicht@fsfe.org, 38715@debbugs.gnu.org Received: via spool by 38715-submit@debbugs.gnu.org id=B38715.157738429331554 (code B ref 38715); Thu, 26 Dec 2019 18:19:02 +0000 Received: (at 38715) by debbugs.gnu.org; 26 Dec 2019 18:18:13 +0000 Received: from localhost ([127.0.0.1]:56232 helo=debbugs.gnu.org) by debbugs.gnu.org with esmtp (Exim 4.84_2) (envelope-from ) id 1ikXi9-0008Cs-FL for submit@debbugs.gnu.org; Thu, 26 Dec 2019 13:18:13 -0500 Received: from eggs.gnu.org ([209.51.188.92]:56971) by debbugs.gnu.org with esmtp (Exim 4.84_2) (envelope-from ) id 1ikXi7-0008Cc-Dl for 38715@debbugs.gnu.org; Thu, 26 Dec 2019 13:18:11 -0500 Received: from fencepost.gnu.org ([2001:470:142:3::e]:46984) by eggs.gnu.org with esmtp (Exim 4.71) (envelope-from ) id 1ikXi1-0005UX-3s; Thu, 26 Dec 2019 13:18:05 -0500 Received: from [2a01:e35:2ffd:930:f25f:2121:7012:6c8e] (port=57320 helo=ribbon) by fencepost.gnu.org with esmtpsa (TLS1.2:RSA_AES_256_CBC_SHA1:256) (Exim 4.82) (envelope-from ) id 1ikXhz-0004MQ-8m; Thu, 26 Dec 2019 13:18:04 -0500 From: Ludovic =?UTF-8?Q?Court=C3=A8s?= References: <87eewvpw2h.fsf@jlicht.xyz> <87a77jp2yj.fsf@jlicht.xyz> <874kxns726.fsf@cbaines.net> X-URL: http://www.fdn.fr/~lcourtes/ X-Revolutionary-Date: 6 =?UTF-8?Q?Niv=C3=B4se?= an 228 de la =?UTF-8?Q?R=C3=A9volution?= X-PGP-Key-ID: 0x090B11993D9AEBB5 X-PGP-Key: http://www.fdn.fr/~lcourtes/ludovic.asc X-PGP-Fingerprint: 3CE4 6455 8A84 FDC6 9DB4 0CFB 090B 1199 3D9A EBB5 X-OS: x86_64-pc-linux-gnu Date: Thu, 26 Dec 2019 19:18:01 +0100 In-Reply-To: <874kxns726.fsf@cbaines.net> (Christopher Baines's message of "Thu, 26 Dec 2019 10:41:05 +0000") Message-ID: <87mubfgdd2.fsf@gnu.org> User-Agent: Gnus/5.13 (Gnus v5.13) Emacs/26.3 (gnu/linux) MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=utf-8 Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable X-detected-operating-system: by eggs.gnu.org: GNU/Linux 2.2.x-3.x [generic] X-Spam-Score: -2.3 (--) X-BeenThere: debbugs-submit@debbugs.gnu.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.18 Precedence: list List-Id: List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , Errors-To: debbugs-submit-bounces@debbugs.gnu.org Sender: "Debbugs-submit" X-Spam-Score: -3.3 (---) Hi Chris, Christopher Baines skribis: > Jelle Licht writes: [...] >> I do not think it was that commit, as I found the offending commit: >> c7b2b539802eaa3f969e212c98eb671a1a75e9f3 >> >> This is the commit that adds mumimu to gnu/packages/mail.scm, as well as >> to the inputs of mumi. It looks to me sort of like a copy/paste error, I'm > not sure why this variant of mu would take the version of the > guile-email package. This is a copy/paste error. The origin of this expression is the guix.scm file of mumi. Ludo then wrote a mumi service and copied the definition of mumimu from that guix.scm file. (package-version guile-email) is obviously wrong. It should have been (package-version mu), because mumimu is a fork of mu. -- Ricardo From unknown Mon Jun 23 07:50:59 2025 MIME-Version: 1.0 X-Mailer: MIME-tools 5.505 (Entity 5.505) X-Loop: help-debbugs@gnu.org From: help-debbugs@gnu.org (GNU bug Tracking System) To: Jelle Licht Subject: bug#38715: closed (Re: bug#38715: Issue with guile-email: unbound variable) Message-ID: References: <87zh2r5dc8.fsf@elephly.net> <87eewvpw2h.fsf@jlicht.xyz> X-Gnu-PR-Message: they-closed 38715 X-Gnu-PR-Package: guix Reply-To: 38715@debbugs.gnu.org Date: Sun, 06 Dec 2020 12:28:01 +0000 Content-Type: multipart/mixed; boundary="----------=_1607257681-7296-1" This is a multi-part message in MIME format... ------------=_1607257681-7296-1 Content-Disposition: inline Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable Content-Type: text/plain; charset="utf-8" Your bug report #38715: Issue with guile-email: unbound variable which was filed against the guix package, has been closed. It should have been > (package-version mu), because mumimu is a fork of mu. I=E2=80=99m closing this now as mumi no longer depends on a fork of mu; ins= tead it uses guile-xapian with its own database. --=20 Ricardo ------------=_1607257681-7296-1 Content-Type: message/rfc822 Content-Disposition: inline Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Received: (at submit) by debbugs.gnu.org; 23 Dec 2019 03:20:15 +0000 Received: from localhost ([127.0.0.1]:50421 helo=debbugs.gnu.org) by debbugs.gnu.org with esmtp (Exim 4.84_2) (envelope-from ) id 1ijEGV-0005gi-9P for submit@debbugs.gnu.org; Sun, 22 Dec 2019 22:20:15 -0500 Received: from lists.gnu.org ([209.51.188.17]:49723) by debbugs.gnu.org with esmtp (Exim 4.84_2) (envelope-from ) id 1ijEGT-0005ga-4Y for submit@debbugs.gnu.org; Sun, 22 Dec 2019 22:20:13 -0500 Received: from eggs.gnu.org ([2001:470:142:3::10]:38264) by lists.gnu.org with esmtp (Exim 4.90_1) (envelope-from ) id 1ijEGS-0001VO-2q for bug-guix@gnu.org; Sun, 22 Dec 2019 22:20:12 -0500 X-Spam-Checker-Version: SpamAssassin 3.3.2 (2011-06-06) on eggs.gnu.org X-Spam-Level: X-Spam-Status: No, score=-4.2 required=5.0 tests=BAYES_50,RCVD_IN_DNSWL_HI autolearn=disabled version=3.3.2 Received: from Debian-exim by eggs.gnu.org with spam-scanned (Exim 4.71) (envelope-from ) id 1ijEGQ-0003ft-S2 for bug-guix@gnu.org; Sun, 22 Dec 2019 22:20:11 -0500 Received: from mail1.fsfe.org ([217.69.89.151]:53534) by eggs.gnu.org with esmtps (TLS1.0:DHE_RSA_AES_256_CBC_SHA1:32) (Exim 4.71) (envelope-from ) id 1ijEGQ-0003SQ-KA for bug-guix@gnu.org; Sun, 22 Dec 2019 22:20:10 -0500 From: Jelle Licht To: bug-guix@gnu.org Subject: Issue with guile-email: unbound variable Date: Mon, 23 Dec 2019 04:20:06 +0100 Message-ID: <87eewvpw2h.fsf@jlicht.xyz> MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain X-detected-operating-system: by eggs.gnu.org: GNU/Linux 2.2.x-3.x [generic] [fuzzy] X-Received-From: 217.69.89.151 X-Spam-Score: -2.3 (--) X-Debbugs-Envelope-To: submit X-BeenThere: debbugs-submit@debbugs.gnu.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.18 Precedence: list List-Id: List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , Errors-To: debbugs-submit-bounces@debbugs.gnu.org Sender: "Debbugs-submit" X-Spam-Score: -3.3 (---) Hey guix, Pretty recently, it seems something weird is happening when playing with guix on the REPL. On master, 5a947e118fb72b8fb1fd0c8d0b783fc7cde0c461: --8<---------------cut here---------------start------------->8--- $ guix repl > (use-modules (gnu packages gnupg)) While compiling expression: error: guile-email: unbound variable. --8<---------------cut here---------------end--------------->8--- Loading up the `(gnu packages mail)' module first seems to work around the compilation error. My best guess is that this has something to do with a circular reference between guile modules, but I am not certain on how to easily debug (and fix) this. - Jelle ------------=_1607257681-7296-1--
