What is the problem you're seeing, = and LI> what would you have Emacs do instead? OK, let's take http://ccs.land.moi.gov.tw/jsp/ExpenseController On the bottom there are two mailto links. Let's talk about this one, 3D"=E6=84=8F=E8=A6=8B=E4=BF=A1=E7=AE=B1"=E6=84= =8F=E8=A6=8B=E4=BF=A1=E7=AE=B1 Well, you could say "Just browse it with M-x w3m, and click the link there. That will launch a message buffer with everything filled in fine." That is true. However in w3m this is just 3D"=E6==E6=84=8F=E8=A6=8B=E4=BF=A1= =E7=AE=B1 That is because some javascript perhaps changed it. Therefore we need to use the chromium browser. OK, but in chromium, clicking the mailto link won't notify emacs, because emacs' /usr/share/applications/* files, although there, don't have a mailto line in them. Hm. No, it won't work, because -f in emacsclient means: -f, --server-file=3DFILENAME use TCP configuration file FILENAME for communication. This = can also be specified via the EMACS_SERVER_FILE environment va= ri=E2=80=90 able. So I think that would be emacsclient -e (message-mailto) %u ? Or does the Emacs -f thing hide under a different option in emacsclient?=20= =20 Hm, no, that doesn't work, obviously, because message-mailto expects the %u in command-line-args-left, and that's not the case here. So it's emacsclient -e '(message-mailto-1 \"%u\")' which has major problems with string interpolation and would be very fragile. Would it make sense to add something to emacsclient/emacs-server to help in this use case? So a new switch, like "-E", which means "emulate as far as possible 'emacs -f'": emacsclient -E message-mailto %u In emacs-server, this would bind command-line-args-left to the remaining parameters, and then funcall the function. I'm kinda surprised that emacsclient doesn't have something like this already? --=20 (domestic pets only, the antidote for overdose, milk.) bloggy blog: http://lars.ingebrigtsen.no From debbugs-submit-bounces@debbugs.gnu.org Tue Aug 11 09:11:19 2020 Received: (at 38314) by debbugs.gnu.org; 11 Aug 2020 13:11:19 +0000 Received: from localhost ([127.0.0.1]:38927 helo=debbugs.gnu.org) by debbugs.gnu.org with esmtp (Exim 4.84_2) (envelope-from ) id 1k5U3i-0004jy-VK for submit@debbugs.gnu.org; Tue, 11 Aug 2020 09:11:19 -0400 Received: from mail-wm1-f52.google.com ([209.85.128.52]:40619) by debbugs.gnu.org with esmtp (Exim 4.84_2) (envelope-from ) id 1k5U3h-0004jl-9N for 38314@debbugs.gnu.org; Tue, 11 Aug 2020 09:11:17 -0400 Received: by mail-wm1-f52.google.com with SMTP id k20so2767578wmi.5 for <38314@debbugs.gnu.org>; Tue, 11 Aug 2020 06:11:17 -0700 (PDT) DKIM-Signature: v=1; a=rsa-sha256; c=relaxed/relaxed; d=gmail.com; s=20161025; h=from:to:cc:subject:references:date:in-reply-to:message-id :mime-version:content-transfer-encoding; bh=rpoxsEPh84eCkzJ8Pq+vSwRd+0Cnx7F2mYmYEHTymgw=; b=oslU+IUkSZwnO0FN45CY3dTyoOrzSl70wC4A3Z2R3NbzTfgkRGtWHMXPJfkx0U1eTd r3hUg6y4j7O5hM0CIe0JcIliWvgRU4WjMsBdK22nG/dIBZqyv+Ww/B6/K2ZOfb/Dizlk gvk8uk1OeQ9bb2qrOAFyJAdgEt0qHWlQP1GUXM07KbgW6Tn8V5ezc1UWIS+UvbitWZLL 0TB6onKwRi7LNjAcpyLfUTuq7WQ8VIWfPptT9yA7FyX5wxy2hwmekE7+u1Bs+/72+vxS HO7Pw0NrdeT8Vptwu/xL2U4Q2EG5HMIEl7yDqibVZgQXqZwLim3CVwLAc796Q/5NpHB2 /mvg== X-Google-DKIM-Signature: v=1; a=rsa-sha256; c=relaxed/relaxed; d=1e100.net; s=20161025; h=x-gm-message-state:from:to:cc:subject:references:date:in-reply-to :message-id:mime-version:content-transfer-encoding; bh=rpoxsEPh84eCkzJ8Pq+vSwRd+0Cnx7F2mYmYEHTymgw=; b=gZt7YDIvl3LQe2KfN5HlajSI9L3YP71Ru779aiiXcbFr0l9bg/8AYZNtySlIR1uSra vE9lCOYXU+y6tGcJ+f9yfJP51oTgStJlM5tYoHWdQ3+KsH1D8U41oHbOe+ClgH9Yb+yT nA3CTe0aYiz3F/Xpl3eJAXPLW21LUOpQ6GIv8Y8KQkrykcUl1CHutsVX7YRxBz4ZqcbW VgKKSBoVQzlcVmuH8Ai1mmanYJ/aZ9qL0BvLjhzXZoTqZwC76/pG69c2Ubyxj4C4K1Hn z9AzLXYQuSJRSBGjEIeRIZxhgneX7tU3UJGhuq/tbL+LXdxlyrE2Jg+yOEBvmE9k/pzn 0dDg== X-Gm-Message-State: AOAM531QNWmFo2AsqH1OyNgT8tLdkOFmn+3LvOJzsdCbgkBziGv6IirK zxzfzH9NycPWcUGjENsioOQx/gaTI5s= X-Google-Smtp-Source: ABdhPJxHdTPHW4GsYRUxOv6enNEUETB0wG/8TfXRX4LworN/RATpCWRjqpoigINlC/6BU6Oc6fjDrA== X-Received: by 2002:a05:600c:21d6:: with SMTP id x22mr3716762wmj.112.1597151470900; Tue, 11 Aug 2020 06:11:10 -0700 (PDT) Received: from rpluim-mac ([2a01:e34:ecfc:a860:3d92:96a:b263:6b3d]) by smtp.gmail.com with ESMTPSA id c145sm3876471wmd.7.2020.08.11.06.11.10 (version=TLS1_3 cipher=TLS_AES_256_GCM_SHA384 bits=256/256); Tue, 11 Aug 2020 06:11:10 -0700 (PDT) From: Robert Pluim To: =?utf-8?Q?G=C4=B3s?= Hillenius Subject: Re: bug#38314: No /usr/share/applications mailto presence References: <87tv6xnnds.8.fsf@jidanni.org> <87zhgoqby5.fsf@gnus.org> <87lfs7sajc.8.fsf@jidanni.org> <87r21ypzj9.fsf@gnus.org> <87v9r8b4go.5.fsf@jidanni.org> <871rttfrod.fsf@gnus.org> <87sgd0c4xt.fsf@gnus.org> <87mu38c4tm.fsf@gnus.org> <87sgct5oko.fsf@hillenius.net> Date: Tue, 11 Aug 2020 15:11:09 +0200 In-Reply-To: <87sgct5oko.fsf@hillenius.net> (=?utf-8?Q?=22G=C4=B3s?= Hillenius"'s message of "Tue, 11 Aug 2020 14:55:51 +0200") Message-ID: MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=utf-8 Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable X-Spam-Score: 0.0 (/) X-Debbugs-Envelope-To: 38314 Cc: 38314@debbugs.gnu.org X-BeenThere: debbugs-submit@debbugs.gnu.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.18 Precedence: list List-Id: List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , Errors-To: debbugs-submit-bounces@debbugs.gnu.org Sender: "Debbugs-submit" X-Spam-Score: -1.0 (-) >>>>> On Tue, 11 Aug 2020 14:55:51 +0200, G=C4=B3s Hillenius said: G=C4=B3s> On 6 August 2020 14:54 Lars Ingebrigtsen, wrote: >> Lars Ingebrigtsen writes: >>=20 >>> Anyway, with Emacs 28 (and if the distributors include the .desktop= file >>> in the correct place), you should be able to choose Emacs as the sy= stem >>> mailer and clicking on mailto: links should open Emacs in a Message= buffer. >>=20 >> (I really thought that this already existed, but I grepped for mailto >> and couldn't find any handlers for it.
