Thanks for your report.  This is a known issue and was fixed already
in the git repository
http://git.savannah.gnu.org/cgit/auctex.git
.  Please update AUCTeX to the latest development version if you can.

I expect AUCTeX 12.2 will be released soon, probably after Ghostscript
9.28 is released.
